I‘m still enjoying this series. I like most of the characters. I learned that Tricia is a bit of a scrooge when it comes to Christmas decorations. The premise of such a small town with such niche stores (even with tourists to support them), seems unlikely to me, but that‘s ok – the stores weren‘t the focus of this book, anyway. I listened to the audio and it was good; it kept my attention

The first 2/3 of the book documented the unconscionable hubris of big box and category killer chains. They way they extracted tax breaks and infrastructure paid by local communities, contributed to pollution, replaced good paying jobs with low paying ones, destroyed downtowns, etc. made me never want to go shopping again. The last 1/3 illustrated how some small towns fought back and preserved their downtowns and local businesses.

This is the perfect book for kicking off your summer. I love Amelia's growth and her devotion to the ice cream stand - and now I'm starving, too! #yalit

TheAromaofBooks

So I've blogged on Wordpress for over ten years. Recently, they switched to the Block Editor, which I absolutely hate. You can kind of use the Classic Editor but it's a hassle to get to. Today when I logged on the entire dashboard has been completely “updated“ & is an absolute nightmare. For instance, I have individual pages to link to books I've reviewed by specific authors. Those are now listed by which ones have been most recently updated ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) instead of in alphabetical order, with no option for sorting them any other way. The whole thing is a disaster.

All this to say - does anyone out there blog anywhere besides Wordpress? I just want my old, simple, straightforward blog host back where I type out a review & add one picture & move on. I don't need all this stupid drag & drop & each paragraph is its own little mini-blog & you can make it cool & shiny & everyone will want ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) to pay you money!!! I literally just want to write basic book reviews so I can look them up five years from now when I'm trying to remember whether or not I liked that one book.

So if anyone is using a different blog host that they like & that has a simple interface, please let me know. I'm in the market to move because Wordpress is sending me over the absolute edge with their “updates.“

Nebklvr I hate the new version too 1y

EvieBee Ugh! I understand completely. I went back to blogger and I‘ve enjoyed it. Gradually, they too have changed things to a newer platform that doesn‘t allow as much customization as before, but it‘s still very good considering it‘s free. 1y
TheAromaofBooks @Nebklver - I was somewhat able to work with the block editor even though I think it's awkward, clunky, and completely unintuitive, but the latest update that has changed the entire dashboard, how I access different aspects of the blog, my ability to find/edit Pages & Posts - it's SO horrible. I've used & loved WP for so many years & hate to leave it behind, but I can't deal with these updates any more! It's sucked the joy out of blogging for me. 1y
TheAromaofBooks @EvieBee - Blogger was definitely one of the ones I was thinking of checking out. I'm totally cool with minimal customization because that's just not important to me. I'd be happy with a page that looks like a Word document haha ... hmm, maybe I should just be typing into a Google document & sharing that 😂 1y
julesG I hate the new version too. I used to blog with Google's Blogger, but I don't think it's much better. 1y
DogMomIrene It‘s been 4 years since I used a free Weebly site for my classroom, so I don‘t know how “shiny” they are now. The drag & drop blocks were easy to add/manipulate. Generally, I had my lessons typed up separately, so I would copy & paste onto my “daily lessons & homework” page. I added other pages for special projects. Easy to add a picture block & move it around. At the time Weebly used themes, so one of the education ones might suit you. 1y
DogMomIrene I use Squarespace for my dog blog, which I do monetize. Squarespace is shiny, for sure, but I‘ve been using them since 2014, and I like how they‘ve developed. If you‘re looking at Squarespace and have questions, please feel free to ask. I‘m not an affiliate for them since I‘m not B2B marketing. I‘m just a happy Squarespace blogger. 1y
TheAromaofBooks @DogMomIrene - Thank you for your thoughts!! I will definitely check out both of those options. I'm just glad to even get some names of options since I'm not sure what choices are even out there!! 1y
Bookwormjillk I use Squarespace as well. I like it- very clean and easy to use. 1y
TheAromaofBooks @Bookwormjillk - That is good to know!! Thank you!! 1y

The best part of this book? #audiostitching!
The good? Amelia's growth (liked her from the start but it's good she learned she can't, shouldn't, make everyone happy); the small town/ lake/ ice cream stand setting; the backstory she discovers about Molly; her future plans
The bad? A toxic friendship, which to be fair improved by the end; an unnecessary romance; the book was way too long- I skipped whole chapters.
Kinda craving ice cream now 🍨

Freespirit It's nice to stitch and listen isn't it? 2y
bookandbedandtea @Freespirit It's my favorite thing to do these days! 😊 2y
Wife Post your stitching progress please. I‘m just getting back into it after a few years. Really like to see what other folks are working on. 🌹 2y
bookandbedandtea @Wife Sure! I'm just about finished with this pattern so I'll try to show an update tonight. 2y
