In the mood for another northern Michigan mystery. The Alex McKnight series takes place in Paradise Michigan a blink of a town in the UP. We went through Paradise in October heading to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum on Lake Superior & seriously you would miss it if you blinked.

Normally, I don‘t like character driven novels but I was pretty engrossed in this one! It is a good book, but Queen Meryl‘s narration put it over the top. During the pandemic, Lara‘s 3 daughters return to the family‘s cherry orchard to help with the harvest, and they beg her to tell the story of the summer she dated a famous movie star and worked as an actress.

julieclair This book has been on my TBR for quite awhile. I didn‘t know Meryl Streep did the audio. That in itself is a good reason to read (I mean listen to) it! 1mo

Totally absorbed. This was my first Anne Patchett book, and now I know what all the fuss is about. I‘m more of a fantasy reader and don‘t tend to love stories that go back and forth in time. But this story was woven so beautifully I was hooked from chapter one. There‘s no real plot just an emotional journey. Having seen Our Town previously did help. Add this to your book club list!

BkClubCare Yay! Patchett is great! I might suggest State of Wonder due to it being set in a wild spot, being a fantasy reader? She‘s good. Every book is different yet incredibly engaging. 1mo

Wow, how lovely to read a compelling story about middle-aged people who are happy with their life choices! I was afraid I would feel let down or betrayed by the end -- literary fiction can really turn on you! -- but I was completely satisfied and crying happy tears.

Captivating and charming and wonderfully simple… a book about all types of love and how love changes through the years!

wildwoodreads I have it on hold at the library. I might get to read it by the time I‘m ninety. But I am excited for it lol 3mo

I am a fan of Viola Shipman books but I have to say this book did not pull me in at the beginning. However since I am a fan I kept reading and really came to like the story. A young woman is trying to find herself and through a special recipe box that has been passed down through the generations she not only finds her place in the world but also comes to a better understanding of her place in her family history.
