Bailedbailed

I was disappointed that I had to bail on this one, because I was really intrigued by “At Night We Walk in Circles” many years ago. I just could not get into these short stories, however. They just seemed too vague, with characters I couldn‘t relate to, as well as many of them being set in the US when it was my #Peru choice for #ReadingTheAmericas2023.

Librarybelle Good to bail on something that is not grabbing your interest! 6mo
TheAromaofBooks Sometimes a book just isn't the right match!! 6mo
TheBookHippie I‘m home I‘ve got to get it together and I‘ll mail out the book! 😅😵‍💫😂🤦🏻‍♀️😝 6mo
Singout @TheBookHippie No rush, she‘s been waiting 70 years 😆 6mo

3/5⭐ Beautiful descriptions of the steampunk and city elements, with some interesting exploration of truth and forgiveness, but not particularly earth-shattering.

Pickpick

This was an excellent set of short stories. Each one was its own variety of thought-provoking.

A couple great quotes:
"One of my earliest memories is a feeling of incredulity at how many people there are in the world."
"The number of people with the levels of passion it takes to become a ghost are decreasing every year."

Enoki, the short told from the point of view of a once-worshipped tree, was an easy favorite

I've become a huge fan of Alix E. Harrow this year and really enjoyed this short story about a witchy librarian and the idea of books as literal portals of escape 🧹📚
