IndoorDameApparently Manderley is based on a house she saw and fell in love with called Menabilly (you can find stunning photos online) and according to what I‘ve read the dream in this chapter could just as easily foreshadow her actual journey with the house, all of which happened after she wrote and published the book.1mo
