BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks omg so creepy and I legit forgot ad well, it‘s been 4 years since I read it and I forgot so much! 2w
IndoorDame @TheAromaofBooks same!!! This scene never gets any less horrifying or unexpected! Really any of the scenes with Mrs. D. ! 2w
TheBookHippie I‘ve no recollection of being this creepy although it‘s been a long time since I read it, but yikes. 2w
daena The fact that Danvers lays it all out there with zero shame and a whole lot of obsessive crazy makes it that much more terrifying. It's like she has nothing left to lose because she's already lost Rebecca. 2w
dabbe I remembered this scene because of the movie. If you‘ve never seen the 40s version, you should. The pic posted by @BarkingMadRead says it all. It won best picture in 1940, and Olivier, Fontaine, and Anderson (as Danvers) were all nominated for their acting roles. Judith Anderson is absolutely chilling as Danvers. 😱 2w
BarkingMadRead @dabbe I really want to watch this version! I‘m going to look for it once we are done@ 2w
dabbe @BarkingMadRead It's free on YouTube right now! 🤩 Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1uvgx3NUR0 2w
BarkingMadRead @dabbe amazing!! Thank you! 2w
Bookwormjillk Another re-reader who had forgotten this chapter. I wonder if reading a chapter a day makes it more creepy. 2w
Roary47 Ooo yay thank you @dabbe I thought today was the 19th and I read too far ahead. Ahhh tomorrow is epic and I cant tell anyone. 😭 Ms D needs to chill with her obsessive self. (edited) 2w
dabbe @Roary47 😘 2w
Aimeesue @dabbe whoohoo! Thanks for the link! 2w
dabbe To me, this feels like the climatic chapter, where the narrator is at her lowest point. Even though she starts of facing Danny, Danvers overwhelms her with her #rebeccarebeccarebecca crap, and Jan descends into darkness, even ready to jump and commit suicide. Then, BAM! A deus ex machina to break the trance of Rebecca with the explosion going off. If that hadn't happened, Jan would have jumped. But of course, there's more to the story ... 🤩 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Roary47 I read ahead to because tomorrow and the weekend is busy. It's definitely 😲 moment. 2w
Clare-Dragonfly @dabbe Ooh, thanks! I saved it to watch later—I don‘t want any spoilers! This chapter was sooooo creepy 😱 2w
KAO @dabbe Thank you for the link to the film! Saving it for after I have finished the book! This is my first time to read Rebecca, so it‘s all new to me—and delightfully creepy at times. 2w
julieclair This chapter was sooooo creepy, and so well written! DuMaurier was a master! Thanks for the link to the movie @dabbe. I have never seen it and totally want to watch it once we‘ve finished the book. 2w
julieclair @Bookwormjillk I think you‘re right that reading one chapter a day intensifies all the feels. 2w
dabbe @Clare-Dragonfly 😘 2w
dabbe @KAO Yay! Isn't it fabulous? 🤩🤗😀 2w
ElizaMarie Wow!!!! I don‘t even know what to think. Jan is such a kind hearted innocent. I love how she finally tries to be grown up and then that Danny just ugh! Danny has all the evil pent up! She is so malicious! 2w
5feet.of.fury Mrs D is out of her mind! 2w
