Finished this (as well as One Dark Window) in the last 24 hrs. Both are excellent! I listened to this one, and the narrator was great. Out of the two, I liked One Dark Window more. Both are great!

I hadn't ever given much thought to the passengers and crew of the Carpathia, the ship that heard Titanic's distress calls, and at much risk to themselves rushed to help. This book is historical fiction, but a lot of work went into the storyline and it contains real people know to surround the story and events, including mistaken identities when there were multiple passengers with the same names, and burials at sea for those rescued but that...

MaggieCarr ... still perished, and so forth. This book will live in my head for a very, very long time. 3mo

A harrowing story but useful to consider in difficult times—these poor people had such a hard time.

Overall, I'd say this was a Pick. The pace was good for a historical novel, and I enjoyed reading about the Battle of Copenhagen given that I visited the city this past summer. The only downside to this book: few female characters, and what ones exist are not well rounded. (I don't expect many given the setting, but it would be nice for the ones there ARE to be interesting.)

As I clean the guest room so it is suitable for guests I had to take a small bookcase out (never fun) I still am obsessed with these little Booksellers stickers they used to put inside the books. How can there be so many books in a small bookcase ? 5 boxes ? Really?

LeahBergen So cool! 11mo

In 1982, despite an absence of boating experience, Jonathan Raban decided to sail around England. Here he presents his travels on sea and stops on land in a snapshot from a different era. He also does a little random noodling. I enjoyed it.

Texreader Such a sweet photo too! 13mo
