This well-known poetry book written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein is a great way to get kids interested in poetry. Typically when we think of poetry, we think of it being too boring, advanced, and confusing. When I was a kid, I was introduced to Shel Silverstein books and found them to be the complete opposite. These poetry collections would be a great way to introduce kids to poetry and lead into a poetry unit. #ucflae3414f19

JennaMichelleCohn http://www.shelsilverstein.com/learning/#lessons-and-activiti... these resources are from Shel Silverstein‘s website directly. Here, he includes 18 resources divided into three categories: lessons and activities, event kits, and drawing booklets. I personally like the 2013 Poetry Workshop Kit. I think it‘d be a great way for students to learn about poetry while also having fun. 2mo
JennaMichelleCohn ESOL strategy 11, “Place language in meaningful context,” would work well here, because poetry is all about the language, even if it doesn‘t rhyme. UDL 1.1, “Offer ways of customizing the display of information,” would also work well here because Silverstein‘s poems are all over the place and poetry is very flexible in terms of how the words are displayed. This collection would be great for IR. (edited) 2mo
YvetteE I love this book! I so enjoyed his books when I was younger. It was nice to take a break from all the seriousness of life and live in Shel's fun mind. 2mo
DrSpalding Using this children‘s poet site is the best possible choice. You can have poetry readings in your classroom, you could turn the poems into partner poems… There are so many options available. 1mo

My favorite book of children's poems, I read this countless times as a child & would love to share it with my own future students as an intro into poetry
As someone who loves poetry I want to foster that in my students
Great teacher resources on the author's website: www.shelsilverstein.com/learning/#lessons-and-activities

Bookjunkie57 Some of my fondest memories are listening to these poems if we behaved well and cleaned up on time after art class in elementary school. I‘m glad to see teachers are still sharing this book with students. 8mo

Day 24 #SpringIntoReading
My #Lessons pick is Tuesdays with Morrie. I read this book almost 20 years ago, after a friend recommended it when I was going through a tough time. I just loved all the amazing advice and the outlooks on life.
