1. Hard to pick faves because I‘m such a CanLit fan, but I‘ve tagged the one I‘ve reread most often.
2. Helen Humphreys (and I‘m excited about her new one coming out next month)
3. Butter tarts (with saskatoon berries instead of raisins)
#happycanadaday
Kristine, thanks for hosting this giveaway @KVanRead

batsy Ooh, Helen Humphreys! I'd forgotten or I would have mentioned The Lost Garden 💚 4y
KVanRead Thanks for playing! Great choices and butter tarts with Saskatoon berries sound divine! 4y
Cathythoughts Exciting recommendations ✨✨✨ 4y

LeahBergen Oh how I love butter tarts. ❤️❤️❤️ 4y
ReadingEnvy Butter tarts were the fav of the Canadian goodies I made! 4y
Lindy @ReadingEnvy Did I miss your Canadian goodies cook-off? Is it on your baking blog? 4y
Lindy @batsy There are just too many favourites! I‘m still thinking about my top 6 of 2020 so far. 4y
Lindy @LeahBergen Which team are you on? with raisins or without raisins? 😉 4y
Lindy @KVanRead Saskatoons can be a little dry, but that‘s not a problem when immersed in butter tarts. 😁 4y
Lindy @Cathythoughts There are plenty more where these came from. 😉 4y
LeahBergen Well, it‘s funny... I prefer without raisins if I buy them but when I make this mini tart recipe that I have, I add a few raisins. 😆 4y
Lindy @LeahBergen So you‘re saying you need to be in control of the quantity of raisins. Got it. 🍇 4y
LeahBergen That must be it! 😆 4y

#HappyCanadaDay all!
Thanks for the tag @batsy
1. Tagged - discovered this author when mentioned in an interview by #2
2. Margaret Atwood
3. I don't know too many Canadian foods, but I'll echo maple syrup and salmon that others said. I visited Montreal last year and loved the cafes- it was there I discovered you can get decafe espresso. So I know decafe americanos aren't Canadian but in my head they remain a Montreal delicacy 😅
@KVanRead

Billypar Tagging @Centique if you want to join in 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira ?? Décaf Américano also ? Did not know it was a MTL thing ? 4y
Billypar @Josee.a.lu.lit.et.lira Ha, I know who knew right? 😁 4y

batsy I have Fifth Business by Robertson Davies thanks to @merelybookish and I really should get to it! He's been on my radar for ever so long. 4y
Billypar @batsy Yeah, that one is on my TBR as well. Though I have to answer the eternal question of, do I finish the trilogy that I already started first, or go rogue? 4y
KVanRead @Billypar Davies is a Canadian institution! And I don‘t know about decaf americanos, but Montréal definitely has the best coffee in Canada. Thanks for playing! 4y
Billypar @KVanRead That's easy to believe about Montreal based on my trip. Thanks for organizing this giveaway/Canadian tribute! 4y
Cathythoughts Loved your answers 👍🏻❤️ 4y
LeahBergen Good ol‘ Robertson Davies. 👏🏻 4y
Centique Thanks Vinnie. I will put my thinking cap on! I haven‘t read Robertson Davies yet either @batsy and I think I have the same book on my shelf 😋 4y
Billypar @Cathythoughts Thanks 🙂 I need to read more Canadian lit- a good day for expanding the TBR. 4y
Billypar @LeahBergen This is the only one I've read of his but it won't be my last! 4y
Billypar @Centique Looking forward to seeing your choices! 🇨🇦 4y
CarolynM Tagged book is a favourite of mine. I had completely forgotten Davies was Canadian 🙄 4y
Billypar @CarolynM I'm surprised he's not read more widely - he's often missing from the shelves in U.S. bookstores. 4y

Thanks for the tag @BarbaraBB and for the chance to join in your fab giveaway @KVanRead !

1. Tagged book - I read this recently and really liked it.
2. LM Montgomery
3. None of it actually ‘Canadian‘ but we visited Vancouver in 1998 (honeymoon) and 2003 (5th anniversary) and came across so many foods that weren‘t yet popular in the UK.... blueberries, juicing, sandwich wraps, curly fries and Starbucks! 🤪😳

AlaMich I don‘t know why I think this, but blueberries seem like a thing that the UK would have had in abundance. 4y
squirrelbrain It‘s one of the most popular fruits now @AlaMich, although a lot still imported. (Can you tell I‘ve just looked that up?!) Back then though, we‘d hardly even heard of them! 4y
AlaMich I didn‘t know that they are native to N. America (I just looked it up, too!). I guess that might explain it. In any case, they are delicious! 😊 4y

BarbaraBB Great story of the blueberry. I don‘t remember when they made their way into the Netherlands but I DO remember that kiwi‘s and aubergine were new on the market! So exotic 😉 4y
KVanRead Thanks for playing! Blueberries are actually a great choice. Lac St Jean Québec is famous for its blueberries and the people there even have the nickname les bluets. And there‘s the Veloroute de Lac St Jean (Blueberry Route)! 4y
squirrelbrain How lovely @KVanRead - thanks for letting me know! Blueberries for breakfast totally blew our minds back then! 4y
LeahBergen I didn‘t know that blueberries weren‘t popular in the UK back then! 😮 4y

Happy Canada Day! I was tagged by @runswithscissors007

I‘m a huge Patrick deWitt fan - and was lucky to see him when he visited Melbourne for a Writers Festival in 2019... (remember writers festivals!?)

Apparently Peanut Butter was officially patented by Gilmore Edson of Canada in 1884... I mean - it‘s no Vegemite - but it is pretty good... THANKS CANADA!!

#HappyCanadaDay : play along if you feel so inclined

Cathythoughts Oh I loved French Exit ❤️👍🏻 4y
KVanRead Thanks for playing! Loved 4y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @KVanRead, I‘ve been holding out on that one - keeping it for a rainy day! 4y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Cathythoughts, same - it was brilliant and weird which is one of my favourite things ☺️ 4y
runswithscissors007 Well! So glad I tagged you I did not know that Patrick DeWitt was Canadian; same for peanut butter!!! 4y
AlaMich Interesting...American kids (or at least those of my generation) are taught that George Washington Carver, who was born into slavery, invented PB. I never heard of DeWitt before now, and I just googled him. They lied to us! (edited) 4y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @AlaMich, not knowing anything about it - I literally googled ‘foods you didn‘t know where Canadian‘ and completely believed what I read without checking it further... deWitt is amazing tho! (edited) 4y
