Girls of Tender Age: A Memoir | Mary-Ann Tirone Smith

Pickpick

I found this in my TBR pile and don't remember when or where I picked it up, but I am thrilled that I did! This was a riveting read. A memoir of childhood and a true crime story all rolled into one.

When Mickey's classmate is murdered in 5th grade, she doesn't understand what happened and the adults in her life do little to explain. Despite the heavy subject matter, the author is entertaining and often humorous.

This is a definite pick for me!

Library book sale! I can‘t help myself. But seriously 9 books for $12.25. Not too shabby. 😉

TerriGreen Kitchens is amazing! That‘s the only one I‘ve read. Most of the others are on my TBR. Great haul!📚 19h

I picked this book up because I liked the idea of a library mystery but while I enjoyed the story the writing style was awkward and often cringey. It seemed fan fictiony somehow. I felt like the dialogue wasn‘t natural and neither were the constant descriptions of food and clothing. I did like the story and the characters, just not the delivery. I still want to read another library mystery if anyone has suggestions of ones they‘ve enjoyed.

This lengthy family saga seemed to go in so many different directions. The story mainly revolves around three sisters and how they dealt with their brother, collectively and individually. I would have preferred to see more between the sisters. There were numerous side plots and details that pulled the reader away from the central story, though. Also, as a CT resident, I often found the sections on CT geography a little confusing. 🤔 3⭐️ #hoopla

This was a quick read but a pretty unbelievable story. Amber wants what Daphne has, the rich and handsome husband, designer clothes, big house and all the money and high society a girl could ever want. Then she got it all... I found myself just wanting to get to the end.... Shiloh's mood is how I feel about this one 😔

grumpygirlbooks I‘ve wanted to read this! But I was kind of worried it would be disappointing lol 3w

This was a great family narrative of four siblings who dealt with the absence of their mother during what they call "the Pause", an episode of depression for their mother, by becoming close and reliant on one another. The effects of this time in their life have reverberations as they become adults. I enjoyed each of the characters of the siblings and the sensitivity and love shown to the mother.
