Does Pimm's go bad? Found this in my fridge. Thought I might do a Pym's Cup for happy hour.

Also who else was hoping for Margaret to tell Mrs Gray to 'hem her own 🤬 curtains'⁉️

TheBookHippie Seriously!!!!! Hem you‘re own !!! 🙄 2y

Ruthiella That‘s what “Excellent Woman” do. They get taken advantage of by the Mrs. Greys of the world. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheBookHippie @Ruthiella and the whole come for tea - You Can Finish Hemming! 😒 2y
peanutnine And she seemed so smug about it too 😑 2y
TheBookHippie @Crinoline_Laphroaig it‘s my mother 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ 2y
TheBookHippie @peanutnine That‘s the thing for me, so infuriating!! 2y
DebinHawaii This made me snort-laugh “I was a little dismayed, as we often are when our offers of help are taken at their face value, and I set to work rather grimly…” So true! 😆 2y
cariashley I say go to town on the Pimm‘s. Liqueurs never go bad right??? 2y
Sparklemn Blech. I do not like Mrs Grey. Seems like she expects others to do favors for her. Like she‘s owed this. 2y
julieclair I agree with @cariashley . It won't go bad, just may start to lose a bit of it's taste after a year or two. If you drink it, be sure to toast the Pember Littens! 🥂🍹☺️ 2y

julieclair @Ruthiella Sad but true. I am so hoping we get to see Mrs. Gray "get her just desserts" before the book ends! ? 2y
willaful It aggravated me so much! I want to reach into the book and pop her on the snoot. 2y
AnneCecilie Mrs Gray should hem her own curtains, but what really got ti me wasn‘t that she took Mildred up on her offer at the moment, but invited her back to finish them. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @cariashley @julieclair well Pimm's didn't happen yesterday. 😏 Maybe today. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @AnneCecilie this why I rarely tell people I sew. Suddenly the want you to replace a zipper or let out the seams of some old dress. 2y

Book Discussion - Ch 9

"Mrs. Bonner... at that moment saw two places at a table with two Indian gentlemen. ‘I shouldn‘t go here if I were alone,‘ she whispered ...‘you never know, do you, but I think it‘s all right if you have somebody with you.‘ - Do you think she would have said this about any men❓️Or was she being casually racist❓️

TheBookHippie I wondered that too! Would she say Italian or English etc… did we need to know ? Other than men? 2y
Ruthiella I think casually racist. 2y

TheAromaofBooks I think it may also just be about the propriety of a woman by herself sitting with two strange men? 2y
Sparklemn @TheAromaofBooks I think so, too. It shows again her prudish attitude which seems to come and go. 2y
rwmg Casual racism was the default then, though I think Mrs Bonner is meant to be seen as being rather ridiculous here 2y
julieclair I think casually racist. Otherwise, why mention what kind of men they were? I agree with @rwmg about it being (sadly) the default then, and also about how we are meant to view Mrs. Bonner. 2y
rubyslippersreads I think Mrs. Bonner is overestimating her possible appeal to men in general. 😂 2y
AnneCecilie I think casually racist, but also think that @TheAromaofBooks is on to something here. 2y
Vansa She's obviously trying to make a point about the casual racism of people like Mrs.Bonner.She also follows this up with her comment about how the men weren't bothered about them at all and how she would have been totally fine sitting alone with them. 2y
Vansa What made me laugh was her commenting on the Indian men calling each other " old boy".You still have a certain class of men in India who, completely unironically, talk like they're Edwardian gentlemen of leisure, and this comment of hers was so spot on. 2y

I often whip around some of the HP wikis and lexicons to get summaries and look at images, and sometimes that can be annoying. Would I have picked up this significant contradiction by myself? I will never know.

Anyhoo, Hermione is a life-saver, Harry is clear-headed eventually, and Ron supports them both always. Hmm. Let's see how much this place is a #sanctuary

Two important ideas in this quote - the ongoing trauma of Ginny's experiences in #cos She's adapting, yeah but it's ever-present. And the 'flowery smell' hmm, wotcha Harry? Oh yeah.

I know all the feels of this chapter belong, rightly, to Molly, but I am fascinated by how much time and effort Rowling spends bringing Crouch into disrepute. There are no lines he won't cross, no actions he can't defend, no plans he might make to keep his power. By the end of the chapter, Harry feels 'older', and is given a lesson in perspective and grief.

Great chapter. Lots of drama and high tension. And confusion. And of course, bigotry. If Voldemort can be described as evil, his followers can best be described by the word cruelty.

Rowling is best with her foreshadowing and laying the groundwork. Events, people, circumstances from these early books turn up again later, in usually important crucial ways. Part of the books' cleverness.

Lmstraubie I am always amazed how she had this whole thing mapped out & how she got there. 7y

#hpchapteraday #chapternine #betrayal There are several instances of betrayal that I could find in this chapter. First, Hermione believes Harry and Ron are betraying Gryffindor by roaming the hallways at night, risking house points. Draco betrays them by not showing up for the duel he set up, instead tipping off Filch. Finally, Ron feels betrayed that Hogwarts staff would keep a monster dog on school grounds. Pshew!

#HPChapterADay #ChapterNine #ThemeBetrayal There are a few examples of today's theme in this chapter, the most obvious being Malfoy's tip-off to Mr. Filch. Also, in this chapter, and in the future, Hermione threatens to tell on her friends to stop them from doing things they shouldn't.

Draco's betrayal is obvious, Prof. McGonagall's unexpected, and what's with Hagrid avoiding Harry's eyes? She packs a lot in each chapter, really... #hpchapteraday #chapternine #betrayal
