The Paper Caper | Kate Carlisle
post image

I‘m really excited for The Paper Caper and eager to get Woman of Light off my shelf — either by reading or DNF‘ing! #bookspin

rockpools Good luck! A very important question: Is it you that I‘m friends with on DuoLingo? (I know it was a Litsy Rachel - just can‘t remember their Litsy name!) If it is you, I‘d love to know how come you‘re learning Scottish Gaelic. (If not, apologies for weird random questions!) 2mo
mrsmarch @rockpools LoL, that‘s meeeee! As for how come — I was bored with burnishing my Italian and keeping my French fresh, so I wanted a non Romance language. I figured the native language of my ancestors was a good place to start. 2mo
rockpools Honestly, I‘m a disaster at answering people (& social media generally) these days. Sorry! But so pleased I‘ve matched the mystery Duo person to a real Rachel 😊. That is so cool. I just started back again with Duo (as you may have gathered) and started Gaelic for the first time (before I took a peek to see what you were learning). Love it!My niece (age 4) has just started Gaelic-speaking nursery, so she‘s teaching me. Need all the help I can get! 1mo
mrsmarch @rockpools I‘m sure my pronunciation is a nightmare, but the chances of me ever being in a place where I need spoken Gaelic are infinitely small. Writing/reading it suffice for me. I‘m actually keenly surprised how much I feel it shares with *French*. The Auld Alliance with France makes so much sense. Word order and some vocab overlap. Eaglais/église anyone? (edited) 1mo

Finishing up my Christmas Stack.

I love books and Scotland, you would think I would love this book. But it was incredibly inane. Plus I know about First Footing, the way it's used here is silly. You're going to let someone disrupt your wedding because you like to keep the old traditions? And the caviler attitude of 'we'll just move the wedding'.

But hey, managed to get pretty much every Scottish stereotype in.

Crinoline_Laphroaig I feel like I've been very snarky lately about what I'm reading. 4mo
LeahBergen I read one book in this series and it irritated me to no end. 😆 4mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @LeahBergen I'm glad to know it was just me! 4mo

Cute and festive mystery. My only real complaint is that the narrator is different from the last one of these I read, and while she does a fine job, it was a little jarring, the difference in the secondary characters particularly.

Fun, but also disappointing in that the Twelve Books conceit doesn‘t actually tie in very well with the rest of the mystery.
Drink a lot of scotch while you‘re reading it, I guess. Plenty of opportunities if you drink along with the MC!

I did enjoy the descriptions of how the MC repaired the books, so that‘s a plus.

Another great read in the series! Brooklyn and Derek are #couplegoals. Actually, every couple in this series is #couplegoals! The mystery is fun and the journey to the ending is always a delight.

Brooklyn and her husband Derek head to Loch Ness Scotland to attend the wedding of their friends. Such a great location. This book is a mystery within a mystery. Who is stealing books from the castle library, and a murder or two also. I loved the setting and learning about the castle and the local village. I also learned a few new Scottish customs. This book made me happy. The main characters are wonderful and make you want to spend time.

mabell I‘ve only read the first one in this series. I remember it being very unique! 6mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️
These books are cute enough, but I really dislike the narrator. I like the mc and her family, but the mystery wasn't anything special.

One short story, one man, three sisters, a series of mysterious letters, and one death. Equal parts mysterious and humorous. And I can't help but love Brooklyn's hippie- sage smudging-chanting-funny mom! Awesome story!

On of the local MetroDetroit #BarnesAndNoble stores is closing. Not exactly sure why. But books have been marked down 40% off. Stopped in today and did some shopping. Bought this to read and and gift to my Mom who loves cozy mysteries. The story revolves around Daphne du Mauier‘s book Rebecca; one of my favs!
