There were a lot of characters and background given at the start of the book. It felt a bit much. I thought I was reading a mid-series book but no.

Personally, I don't think you can have a cosy mystery when the victim is the character's close friend. It changes the dynamic.

This was fine. It was predictable and safe but an easy read.

I've had issues with this author before in terms of length. This book is long and it's packed full of unnecessary moments and details. I don't care what the MC has for dinner and their thought process behind it unless it has something to do with the plot.

It is simultaneously fast paced and so incredibly slow. I ended up skim reading the majority of it because so much of it was unnecessary.

PuddleJumper The romance and the smut hits a bunch of different tropes and kinks. I would say this is definitely a dark romance.

Without giving too much away there is a religious element to it and that bleeds over into a d/s type relationship. The religious language and ideas used in that aspect was very off putting for me because it was language usually aimed at women.

PuddleJumper That part of the toxicity between the couple was something I could not get over. Apparently that\'s a hard no for me! You live and learn. 6h

I buggered my knees this weekend so I indulged in IWTV season 2 and a lot of KU books. I'm playing catch up now with posting.

This was another fun instalment. It is slowly moving towards a throuple which I love and I just want to know what Adam is!

BookishMadHatter These books are great as a quick, fun read or a palate cleanser. I just got the latest one and am debating whether to hold off to read it closer to the next one, or just dive in 5h
PuddleJumper @BookishMadHatter Oh I know! The last one is coming out in December and I don't know whether to pace myself or not 5h

I ended up loving this, immediately purchased the next book in the series. I still stand by my earlier statement that the dialogue is very cartoonishly stilted initially, but it grows on you. But the case they were solving was compelling, &I wanted to know more about Agent Reed‘s past, the secrets she is keeping from her partner… &what he may be keeping from her.

Loved it. Pacing was a little slow but it kept me entertained as the family‘s tragic backstory &their true motivations were revealed. 🍄🪦🧪

TieDyeDude Agreed. I knew to expect a slower pace based on the comparisons to Rebecca. I really enjoyed the reveals and the wild ending. 56m

This is my 2nd Darcy Coates, both have been quick & creepy reads, but I still don‘t know if her writing is for me. It‘s kind of Simone St James meets Goosebumps.

The creepiness was here, but with no clear theme or lesson learned I ultimately think it fell flat.

Luke-XVX I‘ve only read one title of her‘s but it felt a little “horror for Huns” 2d

Gissy like her writing style but you are right, it has the same tone as Simone St. James. Her books are atmospheric but very slow pace🤷🏽‍♀️

Love the figure of Elvira 🖤 🖤🖤

…not as strong as the first book IMO, but it‘s tough being book 2 in a trilogy. There was more action, but some seemed random, as did the “science” which grew more far fetched.
We are set up plot-wise for an interesting finale.

Catsandbooks Ha yes it's a bingo for shows and movies but you could make most work for books 😂 3d
5feet.of.fury @Catsandbooks might keep it going and mix and match haha whoops 2d

This is a spin off from another series. I haven‘t read it and I didn‘t think I missed much. It‘s a mash up of ghosts, romance, save this failing business, and surprise grandchild.

All of the characters were awkward and adorable. I really hope this develops into a series as there were some interesting ideas and plots that weren‘t fully developed in the book.

I was expecting a basic police procedural, but this was really character driven & so twisty!
A celebrity responsible for building a luxury vacation commune on the English side of the lake, exploiting & disrupting the local economy of the Welsh community on the other side… & generally terrible person… turns up dead after a New Years Eve party.
