Still caching up on #readjanuary Why am I so busy?!?! So this book is #setinmycountry the village I'm from is to tiny to be the setting of any book (but the origional version of Hex is set in the village next to it! ) This book is set in Amsterdam, I don't live the (fortunately, I dislike that city) but I know ik quite well and have some friends living there. I always feel strange when a book is set in a place I'm very familiair with.

Branwen I love the cover! And the tea looks super yummy. I keep seeing this book and wanting to try it, but I haven't really heard many thoughts on it, one way or the other 7y
scripturient I think I need to get this book. :) 7y
I-read-and-eat @Branwen @scripturient The tea is yummy indeed! But the book is so-so. I expected more of it as it builds up quite some mystery and suspense but than the unravelling is a huge let down. It was ok, but I would advise getting it at a library or cheap second hand. 7y
scripturient @I-read-and-eat Ooooh! 😳 That's a bummer! Thanks for the warning! 7y
Branwen @I-read-and-eat Yes! Thank you so much for the heads up! 7y

Never Sleep Three in a Bed | Max Braithwaite
post image

All of these are #setinmycountry 🇨🇦 In fact, part of Never Sleep Three in a Bed takes place in the small city where I was born & My Present Age is set where I currently live. I haven't read either of them since the 80s: I need to change that! I also want to read The Dog Who Wouldn't Be. I remember a teacher reading some of it aloud to my 8th grade class & it was hilarious! The teacher laughed until he cried & he could hardly speak! #readjanuary

LeahBergen The Dog Who Wouldn't Be! A teacher read this to us and also 7y
TK-421 @LeahBergen I'm pretty sure I haven't read Owls in the Family, but I'm looking forward to it once I find a copy. I'm amazed that it's not listed in my local library's digital collection! 7y

#setinmycountry #readjanuary #readcanada Gord Downie's Secret Path book and album is deeply heartfelt for me. I've had the honour of being a part of an aboriginal Healing Circle group, once briefly with the odd experience of a friend's parents (from the Catholic school we attended) giving me concerned talks about their practices; they are Tragically Hip fans, possibly to give this a look. I have more related TBRs, listed below.

#SetInMyCity #SetInMyCountry Though I live in #NewYorkCity and there are PLENTY of books set in this city. I wanted to shine a light to books set in the country I was born. Delirium has been on my #TBR list for a long time and is set in my city (bogotá). Love in the time of cholera is set in my country, Colombia. Best love story I ever read in my life #EnoughSaid #SUPERRECOMMENDED #ReadJanuary

Anitta Wow, the cover iz amazing and intruiging. How's the book? 7y
KaatjeH @Anitta the cover is great. It's been a while since I read the book, but I gave it 4 stars on goodreads so I think I liked the story. It's set in 17th century Amsterdam. A time when God and gold ruled the Netherlands. 7y
Anitta @KaatjeH that's good enough for me. Off I go to find a copy :) thank you! 7y
KaatjeH @Anitta hope you like it! 7y

This one is #setinmycountry . There are not that many global historical events that have ever touched this country. But weirdly witch hunt is one of those that did. There are these tiny islands between Finland and Sweden and this book tells a true story of what happened when the witch hunt began there. #setinmycity #readjanuary

[DELETED] 3517561138 Are you in Sweden? I want to visit there so much!! 7y
Martta @Prairiehomelibrarian Actually I'm in Finland but I've visited in Sweden as well. It's a very nice country. You should definitely visit there if you get a chance. 7y
[DELETED] 3517561138 Ack! Finland!!! So very cool! I want to go there too!! 7y

Martta @Prairiehomelibrarian I think you should definitely visit at least one of the Nordic countries if you ever get a chance. I have travelled a bit and I think there is something unique here. Not saying it's anything better than other countries just different. Just something to experience. 7y
[DELETED] 3517561138 It's definitely on my to do list. Now I'll make Finland a priority and we can meet for tea and talk about books we love! 🇫🇮 7y
Martta @Prairiehomelibrarian That does sound like an awesome plan! 7y

I haven't read a book set in my city, but I've read many fantastic books set in Canada. This one is a well written but sad fictional story of a very real issue in Canada's history. A good place to start if you're just discovering the horror of residential schools, or a good addition to what you already know. #setinmycountry #readjanuary #readcanada

SpiderCrafts I'm looking to read Black Apple, thinking of the downtown Toronto Mackenzie House painting memorials. It's a sad history, hopefully more known and told with books on the residential school stories. 7y

Books set in my own city/country! Plus cucumber mint tea and rosemary cookies. I'm in Singapore but my home country is the Philippines. These books are #romanceclass titles, romance written by Filipino authors and set in the Philippines. I've read three of these and looking forward to the other three titles.📖📚

BookThingo Is this the book that explains the saddest man in the world??? 7y
Chachic @BookThingo Yes, it is. This is where he becomes the saddest man. You can blame @mirenbflores for that. 7y
RealLifeReading I haven't read much by Filipino authors! Not sure if I can find these books here in my library though! 7y
Chachic @RealLifeReading Not sure how Overdrive works but these are the #romanceclass titles that are on it: http://romanceclassbooks.com/tagged/overdrive I think that means you can request them? 7y
