Adnan's Story: The Search for Truth and Justice After Serial | Rabia Chaudry

I was really caught up not only in Adnan‘s Story but in Rabia Chaudry‘s story too. Because whether intentional or not, she has inserted herself deep into this tale of corrupt behavior. While I had a few moments of misgivings, Im 100% certain Adnan did not receive an adequate trial nor did the prosecution prove beyond reasonable doubt. I certainly do not buy premeditated murder. I think time served has been met. #Booked2019 #RelatedToPodcast

jpmcwisemorgan I listened to the podcast. I think his trial could have been handled better and that there were too many “well, what about...” types of things that the ball was dropped on. Based on what I heard in the podcast I don‘t know that if I were on the jury I could return a guilty verdict because I had doubts. That doesn‘t mean that he didn‘t do it, but I don‘t know that the case against him was strong enough. I‘m also not sure that he acted alone. 5y

jpmcwisemorgan @Melissa_J @4thhouseontheleft I‘ve not read the book yet but I found the podcast to be really engaging. I‘d recommend listening to it because it was well done. I tried the second season, which is a different case, and it didn‘t draw me in as much as this one did. 5y

cathysaid I agree he did not receive an adequate trial nor did the prosecutors prove their case. As to his innocence...I just can‘t decide. 🤷‍♀️ 5y

Cinfhen @jpmcwisemorgan @cathysaid @4thhouseontheleft @Melissa_J @Karkar This book is written from the PoV that Adnan was framed by the cops (because of his ethnicity) and it‘s supported pretty well by Chaudry. Serial presented all the facts & remained neutral, allowing for one to reach their own conclusion. The book doesn‘t really shed new light it‘s more of a repetitive pounding of Chaudry‘s belief. There are still some holes in his case 👇🏼 5y

Cinfhen But enough reasonable doubt to question his incarceration. If you haven‘t read or listened to the podcast, I suggest Serial ( it‘s more neutral) @Melissa_J (edited) 5y

Megabooks I‘ve done the podcast and book as well. For sure there was reasonable doubt. More so than the Peterson case!! 5y

emilyhaldi I agree with you, certainly enough reasonable doubt not to convict him. I find it shocking that the jury came back with their verdict after a few short hours, but I wonder how many of them were so worn out by Gutierrez at that point that they just wanted it over!!! Curious if you have a theory as to what actually happened with Hae??? 5y

Cinfhen I waiver between Dan or Adnan @emilyhaldi @Megabooks More towards Dan. I‘m still not sure how Jay plays into all of this. Im not sure I buy he was fed all the info. I think Hae knew her killer and it was totally accidental in a moment of rage/passion. Maybe even rough sex ?!? But either way, Adnan deserves a new trial. (edited) 5y

A wonderfully written book. Brilliant commentary on contemporary British suburbia and small-minded people. But, oh my goodness, the last two chapters are dark. Lots of trigger warnings about childhood abuse. The ending, however, is as happy as it can be.

alisiakae Hilary Mantel is one of those authors that has been languishing on my TBR for quite some time. Excellent review! 5y

BarbaraTheBibliophage I had such a struggle with her first Cromwell book (tagged at the end of my comment). Despite its darkness, this sounds like one I‘d try.
