I read this solely because I was being lazy - it ticked off three prompts on the Goodreads reading challenges
Note to self: choose books because they genuinely interest you, not to satisfy a prompt.
This was repetitive, unintentionally funny in places, and I didn‘t like the writing style. The best review of it I‘ve seen is “if Temu wrote Misery”…

Book 64/80 #Read2025 @DieAReader

Jari-chan I also had to learn that checking off prompts with random books doesn't satisfy me in the slightest 🙈 2d

Blindsight | Peter Watts

69/100 This had the makings for a really unique first contact story, with truly alien aliens. Unfortunately, the story is bogged down by so much scientific jargon that it's hard to tell what's going on most of the time. I feel like a need a degree in biology, neurology and psychology to really grasp what is happening. There's so much talking, endless dialogues about complex scientific theories ⬇️

RamsFan1963 punctuated by brief moments of action. The idea of having a vampire as the team leader could have been fascinating, but it was wasted with little interaction between the vampire and the rest of the crew. 2 ⭐ #Read2025 3d

The Alley | Eleanor Estes

“She thought mainly of life inside the Alley, in the beautiful, fragrant Alley. Her life was made up mainly of school and Alley.”

Soft pick - did not like this one as much as other Estes books. Love the setting and relationships though.

Texreader I am loving how you are just making your way through the alphabet!! 3d
willaful I always thought this one dragged some and doesn't hold up as well as her other books. Love the idea of the Alley though. 3d
TheAromaofBooks I reread this one recently - it's a bit choppy. 2d

Poignant story of the life-changing event when 13 yo tennis prodigy Ravi‘s surgeon father passes away in his sleep during an after-lunch nap. Realistic portrayal of the emotional and physical whirlwind of suddenly losing a husband and father, while trying to adhere to Indian cultural death traditions; with an ending that inspires hope. Amazon Prime original story, beautifully written.

I read the first in this series years ago, and though I enjoyed it, for some reason I never got around to continuing the series. I stumbled across this second in the series when looking for a book for the #SomeplaceHot #FictionalTraveler prompt, and I‘m glad I did. This is delightful, gentle storytelling.

This novel has won awards - I was prompted to finally read it (it‘s been on my TBR for at least three years…) by the “Acclaimed Titles” prompt on Goodreads - so it must be me, not the book, but I did not enjoy this one. I didn‘t like the writing style, it gave me no empathy for the characters or the bizarre decisions they made.
