Such a quiet and ordinary wife and mother. Who will even notice what she's done?Lillian Smith leads an unexceptional life, writing obituaries and killing time with her inattentive husband and disconnected son. Then she meets David, a handsome stranger, in a coffee shop. Lured into an affair, she invents a new persona, one without strings, deadlines, or brooding husbands.Lillian has never felt so reckless, unpredictable, or wanted. But as her affair with David intensifies, she withdraws from everything that's real, even her closest friend. When evidence of her life as a secret lover finds its way onto her son's social media, she risks ruining much more than her marriage or reputation. As lies beget lies, Lillian's two worlds spiral dangerously out of control. And betrayals run deeper than she imagines. Because Lillian isn't the only one leading a double life.

Lots of twists and turns. Mental state of the main characters is quite immersive. Considered a thriller, but a slightly new formula. Great little read.

This is a soft pick for me. I listened to it on our trip home from Wyoming with a visit to Mt. Rushmore. An unreliable narrator, secrets, infidelity and a fairly well written thriller. This one just didn‘t wow me like previous books by this author.

As many books there are about messed up marriages...where someone ends up dead..it's remarkable that any of us that are married are still alive.
It should be on your marriage certificate before you sign - "69% of married people end up murdered" ?

I'm still in the midst of this book, so this isn't a review. Just a thought I had.

Eta-- finished this and really enjoyed it. The twists at the end were creative!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐

Reggie I was joking with a coworker earlier this week that if I were to get married I would say to him-look, if you ever want to leave me you can just tell me. You don‘t have to murder me, slip that arsenic in my donuts. We‘re cool man. Lol Dateline, The ID channel and these books have all done a number on us. 1y

At first I was unsure, but I like a good mystery so I stuck it out and got lucky. I also like an unreliable narrator more than most and this book has several narrators! A few hard turns at the end made for a good one! Betrayal, control, mental health and criminal activity made for a great recipe! Book#69 in 2022

4¼⭐
I kept wondering why everyone was rating this so low. Once I got to a certain point I figured out what it was. It‘s one of those plot devices where you either go with it or not. I decided to go with it…since she is one of my fav authors. While some of the reveals were a tad unbelievable, I still found myself completely engaged, and actually surprised throughout. Overall, while this wasn‘t her best…I still mostly liked it.
