A truly lovely story with a central father-daughter relationship that will make you want to put down the book, but only to call those you love. The time-travel hook really works, not too complicated, with some really fun high school throwbacks. But its Alice and her dad that make this book so special. So beautifully written, with emotional resonance without being sickly sweet. I definitely shed a tear (or two!) Love Straub! #pop22 #parallelreality

squirrelbrain Yay - I‘m looking forward to this one! ❤️ 2y

Cosmos_Moon I love this book! Never saw this cover. 2y
Lindy @Cinfhen It happens to all of us. Sometimes I can tell that it‘s just the wrong time for me to be reading a particular book, usually to do with my mood and external things in my life. But when that happens, I don‘t tend to return to the book later to try it again. 🤷‍♀️ 2y
Cinfhen So true @Lindy 💕 2y
squirrelbrain I have this on my shelf to read…. 2y

Sea of Tranquility: A Novel | Emily St. John Mandel

Much has been said about this book and I too loved it. Once again ESJM has created characters who feel so real and human. Their relationships and fears, whether set in the past or the future, feel extra relatable now that we ourselves have just experienced a pandemic. But how Mandel writes about it makes COVID and current times even more scary. Yet I could have read on and on about those characters - in any time or place.

BarbaraBB Tagging the #pop22 crew (#ParallelReality) and also using the book for #Booked2022 #SetInCanada 2y
squirrelbrain Great review! I will get to this soon….reading The Glass Hotel first in early May. 2y
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain I now think I should have reread that one before reading this one 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y

KarenUK So glad you loved it. 💕💕 2y
BarbaraBB @KarenUK @Megabooks I really did. I read it almost in one go! (edited) 2y
Nute Wonderful review, Barbara! Are her last three novels a series or companion reads or not related at all? I have Station Eleven and this book, but not The Glass Hotel. 2y
BarbaraBB @Nute they are a bit related but you can absolutely read them as stand-alone novels. I would however recommend The Glass Hotel anyway! It‘s very good and some characters return in this book. 2y
Nute Good to know. I‘m happy for the success of her writing career. Her novels seem to be very well liked. 2y

I always like to have a book I finish just after midnight on NYE to kick off my reading challenges!

This year it was my last #booked2021 read 🤣. Hubby is also reading it, but not enjoying as much as I did. Not plot driven enough for him.

Cinfhen Love this photo!! Happy New Year, Alisia. BTW: I wasn‘t a big fan of this one, so I‘m “siding”with your hubby. 2y
Megabooks I enjoyed this, so I‘m siding with you! 👍🏻 2y
