tpixie @Daisey the book is only 179 pages. But the preface is 54 pages!😂 xliv (edited) 4mo

Lcsmcat You have more active reads than I do, and I thought I was overbooked! 7mo
Daisey @Lcsmcat I‘m completely #overbooked! I picked up a couple extras this past week for a bit lighter reading when I really should be playing catch up on scheduled readalongs, 7mo
Lcsmcat My two biggest will be done in October and the rest of the year I‘m going to impulse read! 7mo

Amiable @Lcsmcat @Daisey We‘re getting close to the end of #Clarissa ! I just marked my progress on GR and it said we are 85% done. I think we can, I think we can … 😀 7mo
Amiable And also… love, love, LOVE “Garp”— it‘s one of my favorite books! 7mo
Cinfhen I‘ve always meant to read GARP @Amiable 7mo
Amiable @Cinfhen Garp was my gateway into John Irving, who is now my favorite author! 7mo
Cinfhen I‘ve on,y read OWEN but I completely fell in love @Amiable and I‘ve heard this one is FABULOUS 7mo
Lcsmcat @Cinfhen New Hampshire is languishing on my shelf, but I loved OWEN too. 7mo
Amiable @Cinfhen Owen Meany is my all-time favorite. I also loved 7mo
Lcsmcat @Amiable @Daisey I‘m really, really ready to be done with Clarissa! I think an editor would have helped Richardson be more widely read. But it‘s definitely going to give us bragging rights. 7mo
Daisey @amiable @Lcsmcat I‘m at 84%, so I guess I‘m not as far behind as I thought. I‘m so ready to be done, and yes to the bragging rights! I thought going in that this would be difficult like The Tale of Genji, but I think Clarissa is actually quite a bit tougher. 7mo
Daisey @amiable @Cinfhen Garp is my first Irving book, and I‘m enjoying it. However, I needed something lighter/easier to follow while driving in unfamiliar places yesterday, which is why I started Legends & Lattes. I‘ve heard really good things about both Owen Meany & Cider House Rules, so I‘m looking forward to them someday. 7mo
Lcsmcat @Daisey I‘ve not read Genji, but I agree that, especially emotionally, this has been a tough one. 7mo
Daisey @Lcsmcat Genji has sections that are very tough emotionally in similar ways due to the treatment of women, but it‘s not so continuous. Additionally, there is absolutely beautiful description interspersed throughout the entire story. It was by no means easy, but I ended up truly appreciating it. 7mo
Cinfhen Thanks for the other recommendations and I totally forgot about CHR @Amiable soooo many Irving‘s to get to!!! 7mo

Daisey @Cinfhen So true! It‘s a constant dilemma. I think I may need to use #overbooked as a hashtag more frequently. 11mo

#JoyousJanuary round-up! I am all caught up with my reading for my busy January. I decided to give up Peach Blossom Spring for this month because I am on the verge of being #overbooked and think I‘d rather read it later, not rush.

This week: Love Medicine, The Once & Future Witches, & Middlemarch

Andrew65 That‘s brilliant, well done and thanks for playing along 👏👏👏🙌🥳🍾🥂😍 1y

The topic was fresh - introducing Dr. Coumey's incubator ward at Coney Island. I was totally engrossed. Is a conman/showman a hero? He is if he's saving precious lives. In a way, I wish that the story centered around him, but the character development was very strong and the characters were relatable. Hattie broke my heart. Trigger Warning for spousal abuse. #Overbooked @sblbooks @megnews

Interesting approach to Lucy Stone's fight for universal suffrage and her fight with fellow suffragists, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Her whole life was spent fighting to honor women in whatever role they choose - wife, mother, or professional or all three. #Overbooked @megnews @sblbooks

#overbooked club. This is the first chunkster I‘ve read in years. I have complicated emotions about it. The writing is excellent, but I wish it was a trilogy with one book for each time line. The characters were well written and complex. The history was interesting and engaging. The stories were all heartbreaking and I just do not like sad. That would be my only critique.
