What can I say that hasn‘t been already said? It is a devastatingly beautiful story of dysfunction within families, racial tension, drug addiction, and violence. It is both real and mystical. There is so much crammed into this relatively short book, and the author writes it all beautifully. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

JaclynW I am so puzzled he didn't tell her! She of all people would be the one to talk to about that. Maybe he saw it as a burden to her?? With her dying....maybe he didn't want to cause undue stress. I think he should embrace the gift! I'm sure she knew he was lying to her though because of her gift. 6y

kspenmoll I think he is afraid that she will worry; he wants her to go in peace & not linger for him. That she might know it can be both good & bad to see ghosts- like the bad touch he feels from Richie‘s song. 6y

JaclynW I sort of think having these gifts could be cool. But maybe it really can be a burden to see/know such things. Would you want these gifts? 6y

Valeka I really think that he didn‘t want to burden Mam. I think that she, more than anyone else, would‘ve been able to help him make sense of why he was seeing Richie. I believe that Mam knows that Jojo didn‘t tell her the truth about about seeing the vision. 6y
