-The New York Times Book Review
I'm starting this novel tonight. I haven't read on my Kindle in sooooo long.
Whew, this book! #emotionaldamage but in a good way... Be prepared to chuckle, laugh out loud, gasp, reread some lines, etc.
I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

This is probably a brilliant book if you read it at the right time but not sure it was the right time for me. Good story telling and a real sense of the community alongside clever plotting and some beautifully written sections were all for the good. It also meandered and had a bit too much poetic lyricism for me (also magical realism). Read for #readingtheamericas and Jamaica
Three beautiful things. Book, coffee and pastel de nata.
Current audiobook. The story of a servant and educated former slave accused of killing her mistress. It flicks between the trial, her life growing up on the plantation, helping her ‘master‘ with his ‘experiments‘,
and her life in London.
It‘s got a lot going for it, an interesting perspective, and is a very stark reminder of the impact of colonialism, and how it‘s fed into ongoing racism.
However, it‘s also really quite slow…
Since the book is about pirates, I guess I‘d better know the ships!
