*late post! 😬
Alice develops an internet obsession with Japanese writer Mizuko and eventually tracks her down in NYC in order to pursue a real life relationship. Doesn't sound like it's going to end well...

Mdargusch Those figurines! 😳 6mo
LiterRohde @Mdargusch Just got them a couple days ago from Amazon. And they are definitely a #BlameItOnLitsy purchase. I had never heard of Funko Pops before Litsy. Now I have several (3 from the Leftovers, 7 from Westworld, a Weeping Angel, Pennywise with spider arms, an orange Sour Patch Kid, Mr. Rogers, Voltron, and now Gage and Church) and am always looking for more. Sadly, I don‘t think it will end any time soon. (edited) 6mo

Mdargusch So funny because I had never heard of them before Litsy either! Now when I go to Barnes and Noble I notice them. 😁 6mo

Marjorie comes home to find her sister dead, apparently by suicide. Marjorie‘s mother suspects something more sinister and is convinced she knows who the killer is. She slowly plots her revenge and (as the back of the book states) “who would suspect a neatly dressed, grey-haired widow of anything?”

I actually didn‘t know that this author (of The African Queen and the Hornblower series) wrote thrillers until I found this one.

wanderinglynn I didn‘t know (although I should‘ve) that The African Queen was a novel. I love the movie! Hepburn & Bogart give epic performances. 6mo
Cinfhen Another awesome find 🤩 6mo

Phoebe Hogg and her young daughter are discovered murdered in Hampstead in 1890. The supposed culprit is quickly apprehended—she is Mary Pearcey, the 24 year old mistress of the deceased‘s husband. While the two women had a friendly relationship, did Mrs Pearcey snap and kill her lover‘s wife and child in a jealous rage? Had she purposely lured Phoebe Hogg to her home with the intent to kill her?

Read this many years ago but can‘t remember much. Blurb says ‘.. A beautiful young star is stalked by an obsessive fan who thinks her big hit song was written just for him.‘

When Breath Becomes Air | Paul Kalanithi

(Day 20 - #EveryBreathYouTake)

*I haven‘t read this book, but I‘ve read about it...this doctor, who died at age 37, wrote a bestselling memoir about his struggle with lung cancer. The prompt reminded me that I need to read this book (maybe we all should read it). I‘ve read only great things about Kalanithi‘s book (forward is contributed by Abraham Verghese, another inspired writer).

Cinfhen I have read this book. It‘s excellent but the REALLY powerful part for me was the epilogue written by his wife 💥💥Her writing and “story” was breathtaking 😭😭😭 6mo
gradcat @Cinfhen Oh, thanks for telling me. I wasn‘t aware of that—it just makes me want to read it more. I‘m glad to have heard from someone who has actually read it, so thanks very much for commenting. On another note, are you close to being ready for Passover? ♥️👋 6mo
erzascarletbookgasm I agree with @Cinfhen , the epilogue was really touching, I gave it a Pick because of the epilogue. 6mo

gradcat @erzascarletbookgasm Okay, well I‘ve stacked it, so hopefully I‘ll remember to get to it. Was it that his portion was too much of a downer, or what? It sounds like both you and @Cinfhen didn‘t really love the main body of the book...? 6mo
Cinfhen For me, and I feel terrible saying this, Paul approached his illness clinically so book read a little cold/impersonal but his wife wrote from the heart and that left such an impression. 6mo
Cinfhen Passover began last night and so far it‘s been a lovely holiday filled with family & friends 💕thanks for asking 6mo
Reviewsbylola It‘s a fantastic book. I‘ve read it twice. 6mo
gradcat @Cinfhen I guess he couldn‘t get away from his “physician” self...thanks so much for elaborating. And I‘m happy you‘re having a nice holiday so far...hope it continues in that vein. 👍 6mo
gradcat @Reviewsbylola Thanks for weighing in! I appreciate you 😍 6mo
Mdargusch I‘m afraid to read this one. Sounds too heartbreaking. 💔 6mo
gradcat @Mdargusch I know what you mean...that‘s probably why I haven‘t read it yet. 6mo
emilyhaldi I can‘t read books about sickness and dying 😩 6mo
gradcat @emilyhaldi I know, they do seem like the kinds of books that would bring a person down, or at the very least, just add to the load of concerns that one is already carrying around on one‘s back, if you know what I mean. 😔 6mo
