Stalking Claremont
Stalking Claremont: Inside the hunt for a serial killer | Bret Christian
5 posts | 3 read | 8 to read
The gripping true story of the notorious Claremont serial murders and the nations longest and most expensive investigation to catch the killer In the early hours of January 27, 1996, after an evening spent celebrating at Club Bayview in the Perth suburb of Claremont, 18-year-old Sarah Spiers called a taxi to nearby Mosman Park. But when the cab arrived, she'd already gone. Sarah was never seen again. Four months later, on June 9, 1996, 23-year-old Jane Rimmer disappeared from the same area, her body later found in bushland south of Perth. When the body of a third young woman, 27-year-old Ciara Glennon, was found north of the city, having vanished from Claremont in August 1997, it was clear a serial killer was on the loose, and an entire city lived in fear he would strike again. A massive manhunt focused first on taxi drivers, then the outspoken local mayor and a quiet public servant. However, almost 20 years later, Australia's longest and most expensive investigation had failed to make an arrest, until forensic evidence linked the murders to two previous attacks - and an unlikely suspect. Stalking Claremont, by local newsman Bret Christian, is a riveting story of promising young lives cut short, a city in panic, an investigation fraught by oversights and red herrings, and a surprising twist that absolutely no one saw coming.

This is probably not what you had in mind, but the song is about stalking. It took me an age to figure that out. It‘s a great tune but also creepy.

I have followed the Claremont cases from the beginning. This book is a detailed, excellent account of what happened during Bradley Edward's crime spree. It is told with compassion ad empathy for the families and friends of his victims and also his surviving victims. It goes into detail and whilst the details of the crimes are disturbing, it reveals his previous crimes and shows how his depravity and crimes escalated.

Bk1 of April is done.Took me a minute to finish this as I kept putting it down to cry or rant about stupid police. There‘s a reason these murders took 25+yrs to solve, the tunnel vision shown by the task force who so believed they had the suspect,they completely ignored any evidence that didn‘t fit their narrative. I was the same age as these 3 girls when they were murdered in Perth in the 90s so it‘s very personal to me. RIP Sarah, Jane & Ciara.

TheAromaofBooks Great review!! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ve been ranting about police too this week, for a totally different reason. (I‘ve been watching the Chauvin Trial here in the US)... this book sounds really good, but I‘ll stack it for a later date. 3y

Kicking off April with a True Crime about the murders of 3 women in a suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the mid 90s. Anyone who‘s from Aus will know the names Sarah Spiers, Jane Rimmer & Ciara Glennon, it was all over the news at the time & again recently when they finally caught the killer. My last daughter born in ‘97 was named Ciara both as a tribute & I fell in love with the Irish spelling and pronunciation. RIP you beautiful souls❤️

Not the type of book I would normally read ,but after it was recommended by 3 people and the fact I have lived through this , I decided to give it a go. Have to say it is excellent. Well researched and written.

@MrsMalaprop

Lizpixie I just watched the Foxtel doc on these murders. I was pregnant with my youngest daughter at the time & ended up naming her Ciara after falling in love with the name and out of respect. I kept the Irish pronunciation, drives my daughter nuts coz everyone mispronounces it. 3y
MrsMalaprop Thanks for the recommendation Joy. Will add it to my stack. 3y
