julesG The authors' notes. They are a bit hedgy. If, as they claim, the first 100 pages of the original manuscript were cut for the UK publisher, but all other publishers got his original final draft, why has this OV never been published then? Nor come up in any way? Even the authors didn't have access to it. That's what I've been puzzling over. 5y

Question #4 Decre Stoker is indeed the great-grandnephew of Bram Stoker himself. Do you think this holds any weight with the fact that he is now writing Dracula novels?

julesG It probably adds a bit of emphasis to the story, especially when the authors say they used Stoker's manuscripts - which would be easier to obtain/have a look at as family members. 5y

BookBelle84 Yes I feel that being in that family he would have grown up surrounded by the stories and history which would give him an advantage when it comes to continuing on in the Dracula stories. I think he did a fantastic job and I don't believe anyone could have done better. 5y

julesG Dracula Untold with Luke Evans. Simply because Dracula doesn't come across as too much of a douge in this one. Crazy in/for love still, but not this nearly unreasonable "must have her as MY bride at all costs". 5y

violettemeier Bram Stoker's Dracula is my favorite movie. I love the dark imagery, the actors, and the altered storyline. It was much better than the book. 5y

julesG I never liked Anne Rice's Lestat. Probably for the same reason as I don't like Dracula. And in the film he was played by the Scientology dwarf. 😵😵 5y

Question #2 most people think that Bram Stoker's Dracula novel was the first vampire novel, but in fact it was the second. 😲 Carmilla by Joseph La Fanu was indeed the first. did anyone know this? Has anyone read this book?

julesG Knew that fact (I'm an encyclopedia nerd, so I must have read it in Wikipedia or the Encyclopedia Britannica), but haven't read the book. 5y

violettemeier Yes, I knew. No, I have not read it. Actually, vampiric creatures have been in world mythology for thousands of years. Every culture has a version of a vampire. I did my senior thesis in undergrad on vampires. I used to love them...lol 5y

julesG Dracul/a is such a typical male with an inflated ego. I've said that before, I know. If I cannot have that toy, nobody will have it. After his long life he should know that you cannot buy love in any way. This is actually what annoys me the most about Dracul/a. Plenty of women fall at his feet, but there is the one that he just has to have - and only to destroy her. Here, Dracul, have your own Lego set! *pats_him_on_head* 5y

This was good. It had the dark, Gothic feels of the original story, it had new elements, too.

It did not have sparkling vampires. 👿

julesG @kaye Thank you! It was supposed to be a shawl with a nearly square shape. Well, supposed. It's still a nearly square shaped shawl, but with a turtleneck. I'm nearly done. I use alpaca wool. 5y

Kaye You hav such knitting talent. When did you learn and who taught you ? I took a beginner class back about 35 years ago , so I learned to make slippers. That‘s about as far as my talent goes and I haven‘t done it in years so I might have forgotten by now. 5y

julesG @kaye My mother used to knit a lot and I learned from her. In the worst way possible, though. Blunt needles, re-used yarn,... Anyway, I think I started around the age of 6. I remember being quite proficient at knitting before we got to it in our compulsory needlework classes when I was 8. I learned to crochet, too. But never used it. I taught myself to crochet properly about 6 years ago. Needlework classes and my family taught me all sorts of.. 5y

julesG @Kaye ...fibre crafts. From sheep to pullover (and stew, if you must know) - I was brought up learning shearing, caring for the wool, spinning, plying, knitting, crochet, weaving, making bobbin lace, embroidery, hand sewing, machine sewing, mending clothes, making clothes,... Back then I hated it. Now I enjoy having all this knowledge. 5y

Kaye Wow, that‘s great that you‘ve learned so many craft skills so far. I‘ve heard in some places they teach knitting in school. Our library has a knitting group where you can come to learn more skills. It‘s quite a tiny group, but our town isn‘t big , and we have no newspaper or ways for them to advertise it, unless someone sees the sign in 5e library. I can crochet well, and used to like embroidery. I taught myself those things from books. 5y
