Thank you so much, @Cathythoughts , for these fabulous-sounding Irish novels!

I so enjoyed reading your note about your surprise family connection to the cover illustrator of The Fly on the Wheel. And isn‘t it gorgeous?? I‘ve been so looking forward to this one and The Colony sounds wonderful, too.

You‘re such a dear friend. 😘😘😘

Starting our #Pemberlittens chapter a day read today. I love old illustrated books, and sometimes you can find the most amazing inexpensive used books on Etsy like this 1943 edition illustrated by Fritz Eichenberg.

BarkingMadRead I adore that cover! 2y

Dinosaur bones in Illinois? Culinary dreams? Yes, please! This was a cute contemporary romance. Interesting to see how their family and work relationships influenced their interactions with each other, as they both learned to go after what they really wanted, in both their careers and their own relationship. Adored the cover art too.

Pickpick

I honestly had no idea what to expect going into this one. I was never a huge fan of this particular Disney movie, but I was curious to see how much the animated story had butchered its source material, as they do lol All in all, I actually really enjoyed this one. It takes Pinocchio a long time to actually change, but that seems pretty true to life! My biggest issue was the timeline seemed whack, like he would talk about things his father had⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) taught him, but wasn't he only with his father for like, a day?? 😂 Conclusion - this was a fun one, but it's possible that, for once, the Disney version actually had a more cohesive plot!

Thanks for choosing this one for #ChildrensClassicRead2022 as I don't think I would have read it otherwise @TheBookHippie

Allylu I liked it, too. I was actually thinking that his maturity could actually happen that way in a real person - mistake, mistake, mistake, *light bulb moment*, hesitant mistake, change, then good behavior. Anyway, your book is beautiful. 2y

TheBookHippie I‘m so glad I finally read it as well. Probably the closest to accurate Disney I‘ve read thus far as you say. I wondered if it was in the translation or me as the plot line goes. Did we miss something? So you thinking the same is 🤷🏻‍♀️. 2y
Cinfhen Nice use of prompt 😃 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Allylu - I totally agree!! I especially thought having Pinocchio give in to the temptation to go to Playland after a long stretch of being really good - the point that his ultimate reward was literally within reach - felt so realistic. It's amazing how we can self-sabotage ourselves!! Also, side note, I've been using various buddy reads as an excuse to purchase these Minalima editions - they're sooo gorgeous!! I own several now! 2y
TheAromaofBooks @TheBookHippie - This was definitely a book where I double-checked to make sure I wasn't reading an abridged edition, although I do wonder if something got edited out during translation. It's funny how the translation can really impact the reading experience - for instance, I absolutely love Heidi, but read another Spyri book translated by someone else and even though the story was lovely, the writing was so clunky and awkward! 2y
TheBookHippie @TheAromaofBooks I love your edition! I agree about translators I have that with Russian literature. I favor a pair over all others. 2y

What a wonderful wonderful present. I love this book it is a month by month guide (with photos for the newbies like me!) of what to find in the hedgerows and fields to forage - what tastes good and what‘s not worth the hike! Love it.
