I was hoping this hold would come in on Overdrive before the #slaythatseriesreadathon but, alas, I'll have to wait a bit longer. Oh well. Maybe I'll have time to tackle a different series tomorrow! #aliensexist #90sInJuly

Cinfhen Good luck with the readathon 🍀 7y

The Tower and the Hive | Anne McCaffrey

#90sInJuly #day5 #AliensExist Anne McCaffrey is one of my all time favourite writers, her Pern series, The Ship Who Sang, Doon & this one, The Tower & The Hive series which starts with The Rowan, are some of the best SciFi ever written. The aliens in this series are the destructive Hivers, bug-like aliens, hell bent on wiping out other species so they can colonize planets, & the friendly Mrdini, who ally with humans against the Hivers.

#aliensexist
This is my all-time favorite alien book, followed by "Speaker for the Dead." Such a beautifully woven story of humanity, love and religion.

#Aliensexist for the poor comatose protagonist of this bizarre and captivating Doris Lessing novel. While two doctors known as Doctor X and Doctor Y argue over the patient's treatment regimen, he's having great adventures in his brain- aliens are only one of quite a few strange occurrences. #90sinJuly @Robothugs @Cinfhen

Cinfhen This one may be too sci-fi for me! 7y
Leftcoastzen It's on my TBR! Love that old, beat up mass market. 7y
Billypar @Cinfhen I'm not really a sci-fi person either. This is more fantasy if anything- the aliens are only a small part. @Leftcoastzen Those are fun, right? I once almost bought a copy of Nabokov's Ada that was marketed as a romance novel, complete with pink pages 😄 7y
andrew61 Thanks for the recommendation. 6y

Robothugs Loved this series! I was disappointed by the movie though. ☹️ Completely wrecked the story and left out important things. 7y

Pickpick

I picked up this book to break into the sci-fi genre and I found this book delightful! The story was engaging and many times I laughed out loud! The only thing I had trouble with was my own personal world-building. It took me a little longer to create the pictures of the unearthly characters and settings (which might be why it's hard for me to read sci-fi 😂)! Thank you so much for the recommendation @PatienceFortitude ! #aliensexist #90sinJuly

TheWordJar I have the same trouble with internal world-building. Just this past year I was able to get through and thoroughly enjoy The Hobbit (before watching the movie!). But I keep trying...sci-fi is so interesting! (And I totally read your hash tag as "alien sexist"! ?) 7y
EllieDottie @TheWordJar 😂😂😂 I'm sure there must be a few sexist aliens 👽!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one that has trouble with sci-fi world building! 7y
MatchlessMarie I want to check this one out since apparently the reason our litfluence starts at 42 is because of the reference in this book 😆 7y

EllieDottie @MatchlessMarie that is so cool!! I didn't put that together, but now it all makes sense! 7y
PatienceFortitude Yaaaaay! I'm delighted and flattered that this worked so well! Going to keep reading the series? 7y
PatienceFortitude @TheWordJar @EllieDottie "alien sexist?" Ha!!!!!!!!! Don't get me started on the casual misogyny and etc in some of the "great" famous sci-fi 7y
EllieDottie @PatienceFortitude yes!! I definitely plan on reading more!! 7y

Centuries after Earth has been obliterated by nuclear war, survivor Lilith Ayapo awakens on a spaceship only to discover she and the rest of humanity have been rescued by an alien species called the Oankali. As Lilith learns to navigate the newly healed planet, she and the others must decide if the cost of survival is a price too high to pay.

Cinfhen Nice choice 🙌🏻sounds like a solid series 7y
EchoLogical @Cinfhen Overall, it was okay but the first book blew me away. I could almost see the Oankali as I read and the story was really thought provoking. It makes you question what it means to survive and what would you do in the face of extinction. I definitely recommend it. 7y
Cinfhen Ok, you just sold it to me #stacked 7y
EchoLogical @Cinfhen Woohoo! Let me know when you start. 🎉🎉🎉 7y
