#doublespin done - another fun Famous Five book - so much food in this book 😆 also I know it‘s old but I found it hard to believe that anyone would let 4 children go off in a horse drawn caravan by themselves 🤯 Good fun - trying to teach Gary to #bemoretimmy

TheAromaofBooks I haven't read these, but I just finished rereading one of the Swallows & Amazons books (Coot Club) wherein two sets of parents let their children go off in a sailboat with a random stranger and the two children she had staying with her 😂 She had met the parents ONCE and they are just like “oh sure a multi-day sailing/camping adventure sounds like a great time for everyone“ soooo crazy to me! 3h

An account of an expedition to Everest which culminated in the deaths of 8 people including 2 experienced guides. In March 1996 three separate groups were caught out not far from the summit by a severe storm. This is a detailed account of the climb & an examination of the factors which led to the tragedy & leaves the reader wondering if such exploration is really worth the cost in lives.

OutsmartYourShelf The highest I've ever climbed is Snowden which is a mere 3560 ft - an eighth of Everest's 29,030 ft - & that was enough for me. I am fascinated with the history of mountaineering though so find these books riveting. It's easy reading in hindsight to wince at some of the decisions made but one must also remember that most climbers at that height are suffering from hypoxia which affects decision-making: “there but for the grace of God“ & all.

OutsmartYourShelf This account is in turns intense, thrilling, exhilarating, & tragic as the author takes you with him every step of the way. 4.5🌟

Road Fever | Tim Cahill

One of my issues with reading challenges is that the list usually changes before the metaphorical ink is dry. For example, I ended up reading The Spy Coast early, so I replaced it with Road Fever which was rec‘d by a friend after I made the list. There was some cursing involved in making the original collage, so I‘m not updating it! #14books14weeks

Anyway, this was a little dated but informative and interesting (once they finally hit the road).

Ruthiella Still, that‘s some good progress! 6d

This was so close to a DNF for me. I really felt that it needed better editing. I found the concept of the astrarium confusing & didn‘t feel that it was properly explained at any point. The pacing was way off and overall it could have been a good deal shorter.

I initially got this to try listening with my son to see how he‘d do with an audiobook that didn‘t accompany a shorter picture book. It didn‘t hold his interest beyond the first chapter (but I think it would have been different if Libby had a whispersync feature like Kindle/Audible does). Normally I would DNF a book I intended to read with him when he loses interest, but I thought the sound effects were really cool and kept going with it. ⬇️

MatchlessMarie Even if you are just vaguely familiar with Minecraft or not at all, it‘s a good story. But I think my favorite thing about it was how larger life lessons were woven throughout like Books Make the World Bigger, Never Give Up, Take Care of Your Environmnent So It Can Take Care of You. I‘m not sure if I will continue the series, but it seems promising. #Island #FictionalTraveler #ISpyBingo #LetterI #LitsyAtoZ 1w

This was my top book for May and I should probably review it. Sandstorm is the first book in the Sigma Force series. It‘s what you would get if you threw elements of The Mummy, Indiana Jones, and King Solomon‘s Mines in a blender along with a secret military group and set it after 9/11. I found I didn‘t want to put it down, and listened to some of it on audio even though I didn‘t love the narrator. It was a great vacation read.

Finished 5/31/25

WorldsOkayestStepMom I've loved all of the Sigma Force series that I've read! 1w
Bookzombie @WorldsOkayestStepMom I almost started the next book right away, but decided to pace myself. lol. 1w
