3/5⭐️ WHAT WAS THAT ENDING?! The book was slowish up until the murders begin but the last 50-100 pages are when it really gets juicy! I was shocked three times in a row, each time feeling much more shocked than the last. Wow! I am stunned! I will say all the italicized issues I kept finding annoyed the heck out of me.

Oh how I wanted to like this book! The cover and premise just made me pick it up at the library. Then I started reading 😳. Now, I know this is YA and therefore it‘s going to be written for a possibly younger audience, but I‘ve actually come to really enjoy YA horror/thrillers and this just doesn‘t stack up to others I‘ve read. The dialogue was cringy and the writing just felt needlessly juvenile. And the ending 🤬🤷🏼‍♀️. Just not for me. 🌟🌟

The book is entertaining, I got wrapped up in the story from the beginning. It was rather easy to guess who the killer was. The ending was a little sudden and leaves it up to the imagination on how it truly ends. My sister was so angry when she finished the book that she made me listen to it, so I would understand her pain. I wasn't as bothered by it as she was. Ultimately, it was a decent book that I really enjoyed.

The fuck is wrong with the author ending a book like that?!! Like that was just a cop out. Excusing the lazy ending the book was actually really good, up til that last sentence. I actually flipped the pages to see if that was it. Somebody needs to let the author know she needs to rewrite that ending, or at the least write a continuation so we know what happened!!

CMCurtis77 I thought the same thing!! Great book.. horrible ending!! 10mo
SlytherinBookLady @CMCurtis77 yes!!!! Someone needs to tell the author that‘s not how you end a book 10mo

2¾⭐ (Almost a Pan)
Earlier this year I listened to Never Coming Home and this book was very similar, in fact, the only difference was the amusement park rides. Everything else…the same story. Which one did it better, to be honest...neither. There‘s just something about a creepy amusement park setting that draws me in. Honestly, I think I‘m always looking for another Fantasticland…but nothing else is ever as good or as creepy-scary as that one.

ShyBookOwl I was like, why does Fantasticland sound familiar? Turns out, it's one of many not yet started audiobooks in my Audible library. Better get to it! 11mo

#titlesandtunes #islandvibes. Well, let‘s just say that the song definitely was better than the book. It‘s not a bad book, and I probably didn‘t choose wisely as this is a YA thriller that reads like you‘re watching a movie. Again, not bad, just not for me. I think I‘d have probably loved it when I was 15!

BarbaraBB That‘s a bummer but at least we have this great playlist 😉💃 12mo

May pick! This is as good as I can do - a book about teens who may not make it off an island and a 🎶hotel where no one leaves🎶. It‘s shaky, but it‘ll sort of work. Did have fun looking through music though! Also looking forward to the book 😉

Cinfhen I love your pairing!!!! Well played 🎊 12mo

Fingers crossed my hold for the tagged comes in for #TitlesandTunes in May. For my song choice I had to go with Jimmy Buffett‘s Island. The book and song are in no way related. 😄

Bklover That‘s the book I picked too!! 12mo
Cinfhen My book and song aren‘t related either but they both give me #IslandVibes 😎 I hope your hold comes in 🤞🏼and yay for going with Jimmy B🏝️ 12mo

Bookzombie @Cinfhen Thanks, I feel pretty sure it will. Lol. 12mo
Bookzombie @Cinfhen It might be a @Reggie book. 🙂 I‘m not sure it will have as much horror as I want. 😄 12mo
BarbaraBB That book sounds awesome! And the song is spot on 😉 12mo
Bookzombie @BarbaraBB Thanks! 🙂 12mo
Reggie I had never heard that song before. Very man looking out on his life. Also, have you read any of Jimmy Buffet‘s books. I read 2 of them and I can‘t remember anything about them other than I enjoyed them. 12mo
Bookzombie @Reggie It‘s not one of his popular songs. I haven‘t read any books by Buffett. Now I‘m curious. 12mo

I liked the mystery and watching the people try to survive the weekend with a killer on the loose. The motive for the kills was understandable, yet the identity of the killer was a surprise. I was entertained throughout the whole book, but still felt something was missing with the writing style. Probably because this is written for a young adult audience and I was looking for some more depth. 3 stars

I got this fresh off the presses on my Libby app. So far, it is super creepy and has me wondering exactly what is going to happen next. 😳 It's a YA thriller about 6 young influencers that are invited to a remote island-based amusement park. So far they've rolled out the red carpet for this eclectic group and the rides are surely a thrill...But is something more sinister than a few freaky rides in store for them? Can't wait to find out!

For promotion, six teenaged social media influencers are invited for a pre-opening weekend at a new “gothic-themed” amusement park on Jagged Island. While the billionaire owner seems a bit odd, the group loves the rides/vibes. But as dead bodies start mounting up they must figure out who they can trust (Each other? The park staff? The owner?).
I really wanted to like this one. Great premise, great book cover, but unfortunately that‘s🔻

robinb about where the “great” ended. This reminded me of ‘80s slasher movies where you‘re always yelling when the characters make dumb decisions and stupid mistakes. I won‘t go into specifics except to say that the group seemed to always be running toward the killer rather than away. There were a vast number of obvious problems with the scenarios. I basically shook my head, rolled my eyes and couldn‘t wait to be done. And the ending? 🔻 1y
robinb Totally left field and totally unnecessary…one of those “what just happened?!” moments. 2/5⭐️ (edited) 1y
Hannah_Haymond Agreed! I just finished this one as well, and that ending! I actually flipped back and forth to make sure I wasn't missing another chapter, hehehe. Glad to know I'm not the only one puzzled 12mo
robinb @Hannah_Haymond I did the same thing! And unfortunately I didn‘t get much out of the rest of it either. 12mo
