#2023Book10
Based on the first half, this was going to be a 2-star read. Baum introduced more new characters, none of whom were really that interesting. But then he brought back Dorothy, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man, which helped bring the plot back.

I loved the Oz books as a child, but had never read this one. I was excited to see it as the May pick for #ChildrensClassicRead2022, and I was looking forward to reading it. I really enjoyed being in the familiar surroundings of the Land of Oz, with many old friends and some new ones, too. But I found myself becoming a bit bored, much to my surprise and disappointment. Perhaps I have grown too old…. 😔

I read this for the first time. Now I want to read other books in the series too. I like the adventures in the fantasy land with vivid details. Thanks to @TheBookHippie #childrensclassicread2022 🥰 Because of this challenge I am reading many enchanting books. This was also my #bookspin for May. #bookspinbingo 4🌟

I‘ve been meaning to revisit The Wizard of Oz since I added my grandma‘s copy to my bookshelf. It has her signature as well as names of several of her mom‘s students that read or listened to it being read in class. I skimmed through it, listened to the audio, and then listened to The Patchwork Girl of Oz. Both were fun listens and an enjoyable addition to my day. I found the variety of characters and how they learned to work together wonderful.

Daisey @TheBookHippie Thanks for another fantastic #ChildrensClassicRead2022 choice! #audiobook 2y

This series was my first foray into fantasy with fantastic characters. I love revisiting the adventures. My favorite will always be Pip/Ozma. #ChildrenClassics2022 @TheBookHippie

Now that I‘ve read my first L. Frank Baum (Thank you #ChildrensClassicRead2022 and @TheBookHippie !) I‘m curious to read more of this series. It‘s an enchanting tale with the quirkiest characters, and magic potions gone awry-just what I love! It was also fun revisiting Dorothy and other classic characters from Oz. Is it really true that Baum named his magical land after the last drawer of his file cabinet: “O-Z”?😂

TheBookHippie 😂 I loved this too!!! It was really fun! 2y
TheAromaofBooks I have never read an Oz book!!! 2y
UwannaPublishme @TheAromaofBooks I guess that means I may see one on your next #BookSpin list! P.G. can‘t hog ALL your reading time! 😂 (edited) 2y

Somehow this is my first Baum? Which feels weird being so familiar with his work via film adaptations. Maybe I should‘ve started the series at the beginning but the #ChildrensClassicRead2022 had me intrigued. I liked the story, discovering new characters and seeing some familiar faces. Some of the illustrations reminded me of minstrel shows, which isn‘t great. But I like Baum‘s imagination. @TheBookHippie

TheBookHippie @julieclair me either, I look forward to it. I was in the Wizard of Oz play in highschool 😅 long long long time ago. 2y
julieclair @TheBookHippie You totally have to post a picture of you in your costume! What role did you play? 2y
TheBookHippie @julieclair a munchkin 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have no idea where a picture would be …I imagine we had pictures done. I‘ll have to ask my mum. It‘s funny how pictures are such a thing now. Back in the day notsomuch. 2y
julieclair @TheBookHippie I‘m betting there‘s a picture lurking somewhere… 👀😆😎 2y
UwannaPublishme This will be my first Oz book! Where have I been? 😆 Love that you were a munchkin! 🙌🏻 My sister played Glinda in her high school play. I remember her wearing my mom‘s wedding dress as her costume. 2y
PurpleyPumpkin I‘ll try to join in on this one. I had no idea there were so many books in the Oz series!😳 2y
Daisey I've never actually read The Wizard of Oz, although I have a copy and it's been on my list the last few years. We'll see how May goes as to whether I attempt one or both of these. Also, thanks for linking the Holland exhibit. I'm making a summer road trip to Michigan this year and am considering if we can maybe make a stop there to see this, but I could not find the link I knew I had seen before. 2y

Now to start on the Oz series volume 3, with The Patchwork Girl of Oz. I'm reading the entire Oz series just so I can finally eventually read "Wicked," because I won't feel right otherwise. They're usually nice quick reads.

#fairytalefriday Not many people know the Patchwork Girl. She was brought to life to be the servant of a Munchkin magician's wife, but her magic brains were overloaded, and when she came to life, she was so happy, that she knocked over some petrification liquid on her masters, turning them to stone. 😱 This is her freedom story. 😊 #geauxread #bookstagram #oz #patchworkgirl #litsylove #ozite #munchkinland #vintagecover #vintagebook #covercrush

FYI, Littens with kittens, every time y'all talk about your need for a transparent cat so you can continue reading, I think about the Glass Cat from this Oz book (which always makes me happy--I love Oz so much!) http://oz.wikia.com/wiki/Glass_Cat #catsoflitsy #makeitso

rubyslippersreads I would ❤ a Glass Cat to read with! #readingcompanions #magicalcatsoflitsy 7y
GlitteryOtters @rubyslippersreads me too! I am assuming if a cat was made of glass, I probably wouldn't have allergies to its dander, unlike my experience with most flesh cats? 7y
