Mehso-so

A girl wakes up on a hillside, disoriented, covered in blood and with no memory of what happened to her or her best friends.
Great premise, right? This one is very twisty as Claire tries to work out what happened, and I loved a lot of the guesswork, but about 3/4 through it lost momentum in an ugly muddle and the final twist was a big NOPE from me.
She really had me gripped at the beginning, though, I'd try another of hers in a heartbeat.

Earth, cold and rocky, pressing against my cheek.

Another YA thriller. Love a good memory loss plot.

I definitely thought the story was strong. Three best friends go on a camping trip in the mountains and only one comes back, but with no memory of what happened. I thought the twist was pretty good, but the story did fall a little flat for me. It felt like it was building up the entire time to reveal something that was a bit lackluster. I did enjoy this book and would recommend it, just not my fave by this author.

1. The house - Simon Lelic ; the arrangement - Robyn Harding
2. The last 5 stars? That was in 2020. 😅 Hardly read last year and, while better, am still not back in reading mode...
Had a 4,75 star read in December 2021, though - Thinkers and Doubters by 17 year-old Michal Arbel.
3. Mood! Mood! ✌️

What are you reading this weekend, Bunny? 💕 @BeeMagical

Yuki_Onna Started another, the tagged book, yesterday (Sunday) evening. Bought it when accompanying my boo on a trip.
It's an illustrated, fun, short non-fiction of the forensic biologist and undergroud/goth icon Dr. Mark Benecke's favourite animals (a lot of them obscure insects and other invertebrates).🪰🪱🪳
He writes short, witty, insightful descriptions and the slightly goth illustrations by Kat Menschik are simply beautiful. Highly recommended!

This was my 14 yo daughter‘s recommendation of one of the best books she‘s read! Lots of plot turns, “deliciously twisted,” and plenty to gossip about with my daughter. I read it in an afternoon, and was a fun, escapism read. It might not make you a better person or inform you on interesting points, but it will make you turn the next page.

Claire wakes up on a mountain trail, covered in blood and with no memory of the last 24 hours, and her two best friends are missing. What in the world happened 'That Weekend'? I liked all of this until the very end. I can't say anything without spoilers but that last zinger I could have done without. 🙈 I'd still be interested to read more from this author.

I enjoy Kara Thomas‘s books so I was definitely looking forward to this one.
While this isn‘t my favourite of her books (Little Monsters), this was a good, twisty read. The story started out really strong for me, and I quite enjoyed trying to unravel the mystery and that this took some unexpected twists.
This one just didn‘t grab me more, I think because I liked the plot but didn‘t connect to the characters, but it was a fun read. #arc

Well this book certainly took me on a ride I was not expecting so kudos to the author. I don‘t want to say much so I don‘t risk spoiling anything. Claire is a relatable character and it feels good rooting for her as she tries to figure out what happened to her two best friends. Would make a great mini series.

I really enjoyed this. It started off with the main character being found in the middle of the woods with no knowledge of how she got there. Throughout the book she is trying to remember what happened to her and her friends. I love the slow burn. I kept going back and forth in my mind on what happened. I just loved how it kept me intrigued throughout the whole book.

Three teens go up a mountain, but only one comes back down - & she can't remember what happened. Is she a victim? Or a killer? An unreliable narrator? Or is her convenient case of amnesia true? Although my original hypothesis for what happened "That Weekend" turned out to be true, making this somewhat predictable, the why behind what happened?!?! Never in a million years would have guessed it! I was totally blindsided by the twist at the end.

A fun YA thriller suspense story. I absolutely loved that it took place on Long Island, that's where I grew up & where I'm currently spending the week at my parents. Claire tells her parents she's spending prom weekend on Fire Island but really goes upstate to her friends house in the Catskills. Friday night is the last thing she remembers until she's found concussed on the mountain alone. Along with her memory, her two best friends are missing.

Overall Rating 4¾⭐ | Narration 😍 = Amazing
Kara Thomas keeps stepping up her YA thriller game because this is her best yet. She has a way of writing young adult drama without making it super annoying or too over-the-top. In this book, she took the Amnesia trope and put a whole new spin/twist on it. This is a mysterious tale that is perfectly told in past/present POVs with one hella plot twist that you probably won‘t see coming.
