The Beatles
The Beatles: The Biography | Bob Spitz
13 posts | 12 read | 8 to read
As soon as The Beatles became famous, the spin machine began to construct a myth--one that has continued to this day. But the truth is much more interesting, much more exciting, and much more moving. In this bestselling book, Bob Spitz has written the biography for which Beatles fans have long waited. 32 pages of b/w photos.

At just under 11 hours I wasn‘t aware this was an abridged audio version of the Beatles Biography. I found it richly detailed and quite informative. As I listened, I realized I knew very little about the four lads from Liverpool. Wow, they were young when Beatlemania was at an all time high. This book gives a definitive look at the rise of the Beatles and shares the stories behind some of their more famous songs & albums. It also bares some 👇🏼

Cinfhen of the uglier sides of John, Paul and Yoko Ono. I was unaware of how consumed John Lennon was with psychedelic drugs. He seemed to be the most temperamental of the four. Audio narration was excellent. #POP22 #AboutABandOrMusicalGroup #NF22 #IAmRockAndRoll #Book2022 #CreateYourOwnPrompt #BookSetInTheDecadeOfYourBirthYear @BarbaraBB @Megabooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft @KarenUK @jenniferw88 @RaeLovesToRead @Laughterhp @Cortg @Riveted_Reader_Melissa 2y
KarenUK I recently watched the new 3 part documentary, Get Back, and that was about 9 hours! It focused entirely on them writing and recording their last album, and was SO fascinating! It was like a fly-on-the-wall study of nuances of human behavior, with all the friendship history, their creative genius, petty rivalries and frustrations etc under a microscope. Really worth watching. 2y
Cinfhen Was it Netflix @KarenUK ? I‘d be curious to watch the documentary. Ultimately It really was a sad story 😔They became more of a phenomenon than a band. Fame is a bitter pill 2y

TrishB John was not the all round good guy that his public persona still comes across as. Hubby loved the documentary that @KarenUK talked about (I found it a bit boring- but in Liverpool we know everything about The Beatles anyway 😁😁). 2y
KarenUK In US I think it‘s Disney+ only…. we signed on just for a month, to watch that and Hamilton! @Cinfhen It was DEFINITELY long, but I couldn‘t tear my eyes away…. @TrishB but is was all new to me! 2y
Cinfhen I REALLY hope to visit one day @TrishB and get the Beatles tour from you xxx I‘ll have to look for the documentary @KarenUK my son is good about finding the websites needed ☺️ 2y

Cathythoughts I‘m hearing all wonderful things about this book. Enjoy 2y
Cinfhen I really know very little about their early days @Cathythoughts so I‘m LOVING the backstory 💕🎶🎸 2y
TrishB I imagine there‘s a lot of Liverpool in the back story 😁♥️ 2y
Cortg I might have to check this one out! I‘ve already fulfilled that category but I‘m adding it to my TBR! 2y

Just watched #yesterday, oh my god what a horrible flick. Truly strong premise sent straight to hell by its length and dialogue. Seriously cut 75% and it would have been a perfect short for TIFF. Don't take my word for it, go see it for yourself. You might end up liking it where I didn't. The only thing I truly liked about it was the music and Lily James. Oh and that one spoilery thing.

Probably the best one-volume account of the Fab Four's career, though American Spitz makes countless tiny errors in his account of the early days due to his unfamiliarity with British slang and idiom. He's much better when the story goes global, clear-eyed and fair in dealing with Yoko (always a tricky area). Until Mark Levisohn finally publishes Volumes 2 and 3 of his magnum opus this will do perfectly well.

George Stanley. Julia. Mimi. Freddie. Taffy Williams. Twitchy Dykins. Pete Shotton. These names are as familiar to me as the minor prophets to a Lindisfarne monk lol

I bought this tank top yesterday (get it?) At Target. It has been so much fun following along with the Beatles themed prompts, even though I lost momentum towards the end of the month. But I don‘t feel too bad because I was juggling two photo challenges this month and have completed more prompts than on any prior challenge I‘ve participated in.

1. The tagged book. Was a monster so it gave a pretty great history of The Beatles. Definitely some Yoko blaming in it though
2. Depends on my mood but…The Beatles, NSYNC, JT, David Cook, The Eagles, etc
3. Hm…NSYNC/JT are great performers and always put on a great show. Paul McCartney though was amazing! He's so damn talented
4. So many but lately it's been songs from the La La Land soundtrack

I LOVE the Beatles. But I just really listened to these lyrics to this song and it‘s creepy af! Dude is stalking the girl in the song. 😳

And yes my background is a pic of my husband lol.

Finally reading this bad boy. It's followed me around the world to sit on various bookshelves for... 13 years. It's wonderful although dense (many pages, tiny font!). Really enjoyable read, and it's reawakening my teenage Beatlemania. I've had lots of intense dreams about Paul McCartney lately 🤷🏻‍♀️ #thebeatles #music #corgi

Picked this up again. Was 200ish pages in when I stopped last year to jump into something which led to something else etc etc. Anyway, the boys are in Hamburg. Let's see what mischief they get into...
