Peter and Alice
Peter and Alice | John Logan

Of course thats how it begins: a harmless fairy tale to pass the hours When Alice Liddell Hargreaves met Peter Llewelyn Davies at the opening of a Lewis Carroll exhibition in 1932, the original Alice in Wonderland came face to face with the original Peter Pan. In John Logans remarkable new play, enchantment and reality collide as this brief encounter lays bare the lives of these two extraordinary characters.

#OnThisDay* In 1932 a quiet meeting between two strangers took place in the back room of the Bumpus Bookshop in London. No one knows what was said (some say he wanted her to write a memoir, some say she wanted help selling a valuable manuscript), and yet the meeting remains remarkable, for both Alice Hargreaves and Peter Llewelyn Davies had served as inspiration for characters who captured the imaginations of countless children. #HistoryGetsLIT

TheKidUpstairs *I've seen two dates - June 26 and June 28. I chose to use the 28th only because I already had another entry for the 26th 😁 2y

I remember being disappointed that I couldn‘t see this on stage so picked up the script years ago. I read the first few pages and realising it was was going to be poignant and devastating but it down for another day.
It is a haunting fictionalised account of a real meeting between the lost and desperate Peter Llewelyn Davis (Peter Pan) and the lonely and desperate Alice Liddell Hargreaves (Alice inWonderland).

You all don‘t know this, but from I was 6 till I was 15 I spend a lot of time on the #stage. We had an amateur theater club in my neighbourhood, and I acted in plays 1-2 times a year, and I loved it. However, since then I have limited my theater love for seeing plays, and not participating, and this is one play I wish I had seen. The script is a great read, but I can only imagine how good the play must have been!

Gonna go ahead and post this @bookriot #riotgrams punctuation prompt right after the clock strikes midnight and before I sign off for the night. This play has some of the most impactful use of punctuation—to be fair most plays do. But this is one of my favorites, and it rips me open every time I read it.

In this play of an imagined meeting between Alice Liddell and Peter Llewelyn-Davies, we learn that out #firstimpressions of some of history‘s favourite children book characters, might be wrong and a bit too positive.

I loved this play, and if you love Alice in Wonderland and/or Peter Pan, I think you will like it too!

Kalalalatja @GoodForCirculation I just found it at an online bookstore. I know you can get it at BookDepository.com. Otherwise, @rubyslippersreads ‘s suggestion is good too 👍 6y
Kalalalatja @CrowCAH @LeahBergen it was a really fun reading experience, but kind of a sad play. It was just brilliant 👌 6y

Complicated and haunting, confronting and heart-aching. Couldn‘t help myself but go back to the beginning once I read the last page. Great play with very interesting subject matters. Now I‘ll have to read Peter Pan (then maybe reread this play again). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BookishTrish I love love love this play. I'd love to see it live one day. 6y
Gabypen @BookishTrish oh I know, I‘d be amazing to see Judy Dench in this play. Wish there was a recording of the play or something. 😌 6y

Peter and Alice is a play of a fictionalised account of a real meeting between Peter Llewelyn Davis (the 'real‘ Peter Pan) and Alice Liddell Hargreaves (the 'real' Alice in Wonderland).

Peter and Alice is a fascinating and deeply affecting exploration into the price of fame.

Peter and Alice is an absolutely heartbreaking read but that makes it no less poignant and wonderful. My only wish was that I was able to have seen the play performed.

4/5

It would be easy to highlight the wonderful Shakespeare because, come on, the man was brilliant! But for today's prompt I would like to give some love to this play about two favourite, fictional characters - Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland. Or rather the real life people who inspired the authors to write these classics. 👏
