The I-5 Killer
The I-5 Killer | Ann Rule
Award-winning student Randall Woodfield was every college girl's dream - and nightmare. This "boy-next-door" type cruised an 800-mile-long northwestern highway, the I-5 in search of his prey - woman of all ages. He subjected them to horrifying abuse and notched up at least 44 victims before he was caught and convicted. This is his story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Randomly snagged this in an Audible sale a few months ago. I‘d never heard of the I-5 Killer, but damn, this guy was a total lunatic. How he was ultimately detained in the time before DNA testing was a thing is pretty incredible. Ann Rule is the true crime queen. I need to read more of her.

CSeydel Oh, I‘ve read a little bit about this guy, if it‘s who I‘m thinking of - the one who preyed on the Marines at Camp Pendleton? Utterly horrible 4w
britt_brooke @CSeydel Different guy, but that sounds awful, too. This guy robbed, raped, and murdered women along the I-5 corridor back in the early 80s. (edited) 4w
CSeydel Yikes 4w

I knew nothing about this serial killer, which is rare because I‘ve read and watched so much #truecrime. Ann Rule is the undisputed queen of the genre and she certainly didn‘t disappoint in this coverage of the crimes committed in Oregon and California in the late 70s. The audiobook is available on #hoopla.

Chelsea.Poole Oh yeah, this was my #BookSpin for April. @TheAromaofBooks — so glad I‘m participating because I would have continued to put this one off, I‘m sure. And I really enjoyed it. Thank you!! ☺️ 2y

The subject is pretty interesting, a master manipulator, although not a master of disguise -known for committing his violent crimes in a obviously fake beard and a bandaid on his nose. Honestly baffled at how some of these people get away with it for so long.

The way it‘s written reminds me of the tiktok audio “her ears were cut off.. her nose was cut off..”

Eh

Checking another off my #bookspinbingo board

This is my first Ann Rule and it was pretty standard as far as true crime books go. Remind me a bit of mindhunter

When my mom asked for ideas for me for Christmas, I told her “I have been enjoying Ann Rule books and have only two, so a couple more would be nice.” Yeah I think I‘m set for awhile. 😍 (My husband asked for the toaster.)

Amiable How sweet! What a great mom you have! 4y

I left for work with only about 20 pages left. I definitely brought another book with me. I loved this one. Another hard to put down true crime novel. I think I‘ve definitely found my favorite genre.

ljuliel 😱Better be careful ! Never know who you‘ll run into nowadays. Some of these books make you think twice about every move you make. 5y

LiterarySloth @ljuliel oh I know. One of the reasons why I won‘t date a guy I meet at my regular bar unless a couple friends I trust can vouch for him. It‘s scary these days. 5y

Continuing on my true crime kick. I was going to take a break from it but wanted a shorter book since Mindhunter should be coming in the mail today! I‘m so excited to start reading that one. It‘s another quiet day at work so I‘ll definitely be reading.

I‘m about 4 hours into this one. I just keep thinking that there were so many signs and previous crimes! So much could have prevented! But, the last book I listened to was The Psychopath Test, which had me thinking that despite the signs, it‘s not fair to lock someone away because of some unusual behavior or high scores on a checklist So....🤷‍♀️

Holy crackers, this was good. I mean, creepy and terrifying, but excellent. After reading Stranger Beside Me, it was refreshing to read one that Ann Rule was not personally involved with. How did anyone survive the 70s in the Pacific Northwest? So many serial killers!

Also, the audio was excellent, and I really loved the narrator!

Read this for the #murderino challenge, for the By Ann Rule box. Thanks @shanebeth 😁 #ssdgm

Cinfhen I‘m in middle of The Stranger...so crazzzy and I agree...the 70s were some messed up years!!!!! 5y

When I was younger I was fascinated with psychology and serial killers...yes, I'm strange...but I think that is what happens when your mom grows up near Ed Gein and you grow up near Jeffrey Dahmer. I got hooked again last year because of the book Mindhunter and the Netflix series. A coworker recommended anything by Ann Rule. Great recommendation! 5/5

ptkpepe98 I'm right there with you. On a positive note, I am always aware of my surroundings, and trust my Spidey senses. 6y

I love true crime novels. Even though I don't usually consider them "scary", this one did freak me out a bit. This guy was active in my hometown and killed around places that I know very well. Do people in big cities feel this a lot or is it just because my town is relatively quiet, so this feels extra creepy?
