Black Widow
Black Widow | Daniel Silva
#1 New York Times bestselling author Daniel Silva delivers another spellbinding international thriller one that finds the legendary Gabriel Allon grappling with an ISIS mastermind. Gabriel Allon, the art restorer, spy, and assassin described as the most compelling fictional creation "since Ian Fleming put down his martini and invented James Bond" (Rocky Mountain News), is poised to become the chief of Israel s secret intelligence service. But on the eve of his promotion, events conspire to lure him into the field for one final operation. ISIS has detonated a massive bomb in the Marais district of Paris, and a desperate French government wants Gabriel to eliminate the man responsible before he can strike again. Acclaimed novelist Daniel Silva has thrilled, entertained and educated readers with eighteen thoughtful and gripping spy novels featuring a diverse cast of compelling characters and ingenious plots that have taken them around the globe and back from the United States to Europe, Russia to the Middle East. From its shocking opening to its explosive denouement in Washington, D.C., The Black Widow reveals itself as Silva s most timely and powerful novel yet. Following the success of his smash hit The English Spy, this electrifying thriller showcases Silva s consummate skill and brilliant imagination, and is sure to be a must read for his multitude of current and future fans."

I‘m sad that I am nearing the end of this series (or at least catching up to the recently published books in this series). I fear that this is leading up to something big and bad happening to some of the members of the team. But hopefully I am wrong.

Thought it would turn out to be one of the greatest thrillers I have read, unfortunately, I was let down half of through. Mind it, it was not bad by any means, but it could have been lot better. Idea was great, fluidity was good.

I love Silva's books. And this series has always been exceptional. However, this is not as good as the previous Gabriel Allon works. Up until the last hundred pages or so, it's boring. I loved the last part of the novel, as it was fast-paced, exciting, and so on. But it took too long to get there.

Silva knows how to build tension and hold the reader at the edge of their seat for most of a novel. If you are looking for good espionage fiction, it doesn't get much better than this -- but you should start at the beginning of the series to appreciate the way it weaves together.

I'm OBSESSED with Gabriel Allon, smoldering spy, sexy art restorer, selfless husband and all around Hottie ❤️Daniel Silva has created my favorite spy thriller series! This past summer I heard Mr. Silva speak, he was funny, charming, honest and open. He shared an inside scoop, that he was currently in talks with Netflix to produce a Gabriel Allon series based on his novels😁Above are a few of my choices to play Gabriel💕💕💕 #BelovedCharacter

DGRachel Ooh! I'm torn - I'd love a series to binge watch, but ugh - I love Gabriel Allon so much there's no way it could live up to my expectations. 😩 3y
Nicohlay Ooh those are some hot choices!! Too hard to choose which would be best lol 3y
Cinfhen I know @DGRachel @Nicohlay 😍😍😍But these books deserve some screen time and honestly who wouldn't want to watch David Beckham pull off being an Israeli spy! 3y

minkyb Not sure how I feel about this. I adore this series and am always disappointed in Hollywood casting. That said if Benedict Cumberbatch plays Gabriel I could be persuaded. I can suspend belief for that! Just kidding, it would not be a good fit! Oh, I am a tad jealous you heard Silva speak in person @Cinfhen 😍 3y
Reviewsbylola Omggggg is that Mark Paul Gosselaar?? Otherwise always known in my heart as Zach Morris?!? 3y
Cinfhen @Reviewsbylola YES!!! Good spot, how hot did he become?!?!?I LOVED Saved By The Bell💕💕💕 (edited) 3y
Cinfhen @minkyb if I have David Beckham playing Gabriel u can have Benedict Cumberbatch, I'm actually fine with that, too💖 3y
Lmstraubie Oh my! Who to choose? Who to choose??? 3y
Cinfhen @Lmstraubie EXACTLY 😜💘 3y

Oooooh! This was so good. Had a feel similar to the Homeland series. Also, I love the direction that the overarching story line is taking!!! This fab series is still going strong

Centique Oooh that spider pic is something else! 😍 3y
Theresa The scale of that picture!! It makes me think of the cheesy B movie Tarantula in which a giant tarantula attacks a town. So bad that it's almost good. 😂🕷🕸 3y
MaleficentBookDragon @Theresa is that the one with William Shatner? I 🖤💙💜 cheesy monster flicks, especially the 1970s ones. The one where Don Johnson turns into a 🐍 disturbed me so much as a kid. 🐸 s was my fav. 3y
DGRachel I seriously need to pick these back up and catch up! I got sidetracked by other things and it's been years since I read one, even thought I own them all on Kindle. 😔 3y
Theresa @MaleficentTheBookDragon The version of Tarantula I'm familiar with doesn't have William Shatner, but it does have Clint Eastwood in a bit part. ??? Don Johnson turned into a snake?? I'll have to look that one up! The only movie I know of where someone turned into a snake is "Ssss" which I think was made for TV IN THE 70s. It creeped the bejeezus out of me!! ? 3y

My current favorite spy novel series is the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva. The Black Widow is the most recent installment released this year.

I haven't read any of his books, but I loved his response to the NYT Book Review's weekly question: You're organizing a literary dinner party. Which 3 writers, dead or alive, do you invite? Silva says, "Gore Vidal and Norman Mailer, with William F. Buckley to serve as referee. I think I would set the table with paper plates and plastic utensils to avoid any undue bloodshed." I think they still would have found a way to hurt each other!

Hobbinol This week I think I'd host Michel Foucault, Tom of Finland and John Boswell. Anyone else out there having an imaginary dinner part? #literarydinnerparty 3y
marixa Hmmm...maybe a Sci-Fi/Fantasy dinner party: Ursula LeGuin, Robert Heinlein, and Neal Stephenson...that would be interesting! 3y

KellyKate I haven't read any of his books, but thought of jumping into the series with this one after hearing all the great reviews, or should I start at the beginning? 3y
AnnieReads @KellyKate You could certainly jump in to the series with a The Black Widow. You won't have all the history of Gabriel Allon but you'll get enough glimpses that you won't be lost. I do have to say though that the entire series is well worth reading. Daniel Silva is one of my favorite authors. 3y
