Money isn?t the same as treasure, and IQ isn?t the same as smarts? An uplifting and joyous new novel hailed by Jacqueline Mitchard as ?solid gold.? Perry L. Crandall knows what it?s like to be an outsider. With an IQ of 76, he?s an easy mark. Before his grandmother died, she armed Perry well with what he?d need to know: the importance of words and writing things down, and how to play the lottery. Most important, she taught him whom to trust?a crucial lesson for Perry when he wins the multimillion-dollar jackpot. As his family descends, moving in on his fortune, his fate, and his few true friends, he has a lesson for them: never, ever underestimate Perry Crandall.

Perry L. Crandall was the first character to pop into my head when I saw the #MellowCharacter prompt. This book was one of the sweetest stories and it never got the attention it should have when it came out (2007).

Eggs Wow 😯 this sounds so good 😊 11mo

#TBRtemptation post! Now this sounds like a *very* interesting read! Perhaps in the vein of "Flowers for Algernon"? A mentally handicapped man is raised by his Gram. After she dies, he wins the $12 million lottery, and all kinds of people he never knew start showing up. Some are bad, and some are good. Wow! Great premise! And an almost-4 star rating on Goodreads, to boot. Added! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

Cinfhen Thanks @MrBook 👍🏻 7y
Blair_Reads That does sound intriguing 😊 7y
BkClubCare Oh, yes, lovely LOVELY book. And dare I say, BETTER than Algernon. 7y

BkClubCare I wasn't a big fan of Flowers for Alg. I really had the idea it featured aliens and space ships and kept waiting for the mouse to beam back or make a connection. Isn't that what scifi means?! Yea, I'm an idiot. 7y
BkClubCare So YEA. Lottery is WAY better than FfA 7y
LonelyReader I loved the book. It was heartwarming and incredibly pleasant read! 7y

Pickpick

The so-called family that took advantage of Perry once he won the lottery when they were ready to put him on the street before infuriated me. Take away from reading this is "people are the worst"

shawnmooney I want to read this book nearly as bad as I want to win the lottery! 8y
