A mysterious worldwide epidemic reduces the birthrate of female infants from 50 percent to less than 1 percent. Medical science and governments around the world scramble in an effort to solve the problem, but twenty-five years later there is no cure, and an entire generation grows up with a population of fewer than a thousand women. Zoey and some of the surviving young women are housed in a scientific research compound dedicated to determining the cause. For two decades, she's been isolated from her family, treated as a test subject, and locked away--told only that the virus has wiped out the rest of the world's population. Captivity is the only life Zoey has ever known, and escaping her heavily armed captors is no easy task, but she's determined to leave before she is subjected to the next round of tests...a program that no other woman has ever returned from. Even if she's successful, Zoey has no idea what she'll encounter in the strange new world beyond the facility's walls. Winning her freedom will take brutality she never imagined she possessed, as well as all her strength and cunning--but Zoey is ready for war.

Book one of a trilogy that introduces you to a dystopian world where females are few. We are following Zoey who has been brought up in a facility which inprisions captured females in the hope that they will be the key for reproducing baby girls and ultimately saving the human species from extinction.

At time of posting this trilogy is available on the kindle unlimited plan

Listened to this first book in a trilogy on audio and it was a good dystopian. A story about how girls no longer are being born and the few that are left have been taken away and are kept in this facility until they are 21. But what happens then may not be what the girls are being told. Zoe, one of six left, has had enough and wants out.
This marks off #3 on my #JoysOfJune readathon goals. @Andrew65

#BFC check-in! Not doing super hot on my goal to ear veggies with my lunch!! But I got some carrots and cucumbers at the grocery store yesterday so hopefully this week will be better!! Making progress on my reading goal of my five oldest unread Kindle books - about halfway through the tagged book, which was purchased February 2016!!

@wanderinglynn

Meaw_catlady Wow great goals! You‘ve got this !!! 🖖🖤 4y
wanderinglynn You‘re making progress 🙌🏻 and more important, you are consciously tracking. One step, one day at a time. Each week try to add one more day and before you know it, you‘ll be at 7 days/week! 👍🏻 4y

Kind of a sad #bookreport! Honestly, March hasn't been the greatest reading month, but you'll have that!

Anyway, I finished the Christie book, bailed on Deep Blue Secret, read one book not pictured (a Regency romance that was about 100 pages tooooooo long), and am halfway through The Last Girl, trying to decide whether or not I care enough to finish it. I'd still really like to read a total of five books for #24B4Monday (am only 1.5 books in) ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) but it is actually a pretty gorgeous spring day out there so this weekend may end up devoted to getting some chores checked off the list instead!

jb72 It is such a bright and beautiful sunny day here. The first one we‘ve had in months. 4y
TheAromaofBooks @jb72 - yes! There were loads of storms last night but now the sun is shining, tiny flowers are popping up, and it's warm enough that I've thrown open all the windows! Like I told my husband this morning, this is one of those days that you dream about in the dead of winter! 4y

wanderinglynn I think March has even a tough reading month for a lot of us. Hang in there! It will get better. 💚 4y
TheAromaofBooks @wanderinglynn - thank you!! One day at a time is all we can!! The sun is shining today so that is helping make everything feel a little better! 4y

Speaking of bullet journal pages - tomorrow starts the next round of #BFC and I am hoping to read the five oldest books in my Kindle library plus eat some veggies with my lunch every day!
@wanderinglynn

Centique That‘s a great goal. I must see what the oldest books on my Kindle are 🤔 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Centique - I definitely tend to forget about Kindle books much more easily than my physical books, which are at least in a giant pile that I see all the time haha A while back I sorted through my ebooks & put them on a spreadsheet so I could more easily tell what I had read, which books were part of a series, etc. My sister & I share our Kindle libraries, too, which adds to sheer volume of chaos!! 4y
sheshedbooks 😻 I see a bujo. Those are interesting titles. Won't list them yet, looking forward to your thoughts on them. And what does BFC mean? 4y

audraelizabeth I love your goal. I added all my kindle books to my goodreads list so maybe I can start reading to get them off the list. 4y
TheAromaofBooks @greenreads - BFC stands for Book-Fitness Challenge. @wanderinglynn started it back before I was even on Litsy. For each round, every person individually chooses a reading goal and some kind of fitness/health goal or habit, and then we all cheer each other on!! It isn't a competition, just a chance to help encourage one another to make some small improvements in our lives!! 4y
sheshedbooks @TheAromaofBooks Oooh Great challenge 😄 Thanks for answering! I'll see if I can join the next round. 4y
wanderinglynn Great goals! 🙌🏻 And tracking then in a journal is a great idea. 👍🏻👍🏻 4y

Yay for #BFC!! A shorter, no-team round this time, with a focus on positive habits!! Check out @wanderinglynn 's page for more details!

My goals - read my five oldest unread Kindle books, including this one (purchased Feb 2016), and eat fresh vegetables with lunch every day.

Totally loving seeing everyone else's goals!!

wanderinglynn Yay! So happy you‘re joining us again! 💜 And great goals 🙌🏻 4y

I suppose I should post my own #bookspin list!! Decided to start with my oldest unread Kindle book and go forward from there. Bought my Kindle in early 2016... ALL 20 books are from 2016! I don't even remember why I thought any of these sounded good lol Definitely time to get at least one of them off the TBR!!!

Bookishlie Such a good idea!!! 4y
nukie19 The Last Girl was a pretty decent series, IIRC! 4y
MissAimz_55 That‘s an awesome idea! 4y

EliNeedsMoreShelves Oooh, good idea! 4y
BookishMe Such lovely handwriting 💞💞 4y
Cinfhen This list makes me feel better about my Kindle backlog 4y
UwannaPublishme I‘m afraid to follow your lead since I bought my Kindle in 2009! 😆 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Bookishlie @MissAimz_55 @EliNeedsMoreShelves @Cinfhen @UwannaPublishme - honestly did not anticipate there being THAT many unread just from 2016!! Although I did go a bit crazy when I first got my Kindle - so easy to get free books/only pay a $1! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @BookishMe - thank you!! I always wanted fancy old-fashioned handwriting, and at one point Mom got me a handwriting curriculum to teach me Spencerian. It didn't really work (lol) but random bits still crop up, especially my capital I's. I keep thinking it would be fun to try it again now that I'm an adult instead of a 12-year-old. 4y
TheAromaofBooks @nukie19 - The Last Girl was one of the very first Kindle books I ever purchased, and now I don't even remember the synopsis!! 4y
BookishMe @TheAromaofBooks that's so COOL! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @BookishMe - I was home schooled, so we tried all sorts of random stuff 😂 4y
BookishMe AWESOMENESS 👍🏽😄👍🏽 4y
Gissy Nice, clear handwriting 👌 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Gissy - thank you!! 4y
Joanne1 Oh I haven‘t even delved into my kindle tbrs yet. 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Joanne1 - Maybe a year ago I got suddenly frustrated by the fact that I owned a jillion Kindle books but they were completely unorganized. I especially hate reading books our of order if they are in a series. Plus, my sister & I “share“ our library, so half the books that appear I didn't even buy haha So I entered them all into a complicated spreadsheet & sorted them into Unread Collections & it has genuinely helped me tackle them! 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick A nice list! I read Star Sand a few years ago & remember enjoying it. Not a groundbreaking, 5-star, life-changer, but quietly good. 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick - Good to know! I definitely want to get to all of these at some point this year, so hopefully this will kickstart the process!! 4y

Pickpick

⚠️*Review warning: this is a Pick only because so-so doesn't quite fit*⚠️
I seriously considered putting this down and not coming back at the beginning. The first 1/4 was slow and came across as whiny, and made me question my book choice.
After a lacklustre opening it picks up speed, moving into a well formed story with some genuinely brave and interesting characters.
So bear with it... it's worth the wait!

jb72 I definitely need to work on a #tbrcleanup! 5y
TCLinrow @jb72 it's actually been really fun 😊 turns out there were a few gems I had lying around... some duds too, but now I know ☺️ 5y

Bit of a slow start to #24b4Monday today because it's been busier than I expected 🙃
Picking this one up again has been a nice surprise; the book has been so slow up to this point and suddenly it seems to be all systems go!
One thing it seems to be introducing lots of new groups and issues all of a sudden... I know its setting up for the rest of the trilogy, but I'm concerned about where it'll leave this book 🤔

Review is finally up! ⁣
It only took me a few weeks to get back into the swing of things but back in I am! 🤣⁣

Hart's dystopian themed novel is not something I normally read but it was interesting that's for sure. I may read the subsequent books, not sure yet but if anyone's read them, how did you like them

The action was good, but the characters didn't have enough depth for me. There was too much telling and not enough showing. The middle part of this book is really boring and it feels like it should be split into two different books.

Polished off a couple of rereads (I've been working through them for a while) and started on the tagged book. It's definitely caught my interest, so we'll see how it turns out in the end 😊 #deweysreadathon

Pros: I was really intrigued by the concept of female (and thus human) extinction by some unknown cause. The characters and events that took place within the compound were compelling and interesting to read. Cons: The latter part of the story seemed to drag a bit, and wasn't as fluid as the beginning. Also, one of the most likable characters dies, which was very disappointing. Overall, a decent read. I hope the rest of the series is better though!

Was pleasantly surprised with this book. Dystopian future novels are not usually my cup of tea as I'm way too optimistic to be able to stomach all the doom and gloom. However, this book had enough action to keep me distracted from getting depressed and the plot offered me enough hope to keep me trudging through the despair.

My scenery while reading probably helped a little with the mood as well 😂😂

I flew through this on a rainy day. The plot is quite a reach- a girl, raised as a sheltered scientific specimen and indoctrinated on her place as such, one day breaks free by wielding weapons she's completely unfamiliar with, survives wounded and alone in a post-apocalyptic Outside, evades hostile search parties and malicious strangers, then returns with a greater arsenal and allies to free her fellow women. Unrealistic, but entertaining.

For me this book was so-so because the beginning drags on a lot. It kept my intrigued, and I definitely wanted to know how the story ended, but it was difficult to get there. I also thought some of the deaths were unnecessary, but what can you do! Overall a decent read!
