Ebook. Slow beginning on this YA scifi. It has some of the typical tropes of YA, but there's LGBTQ rep and I was curious as to where it was going. It leaves on a cliffhanger, which I always find rather rude. I've already got the next one in the duology queued up.
I think my favorite character was Julian, because, I mean, every conspiracy has a nugget of truth 🤷‍♀️

My reading buddies are Zeus and Calli for the #readathon #deweyapril Since I took this picture Zeus has taken over the couch and Calli has become very whiny so they aren‘t the best buddies. In good news I finally finished a book and want a break from my ereader so I‘m selecting a paper book to read! 😊 #dogsoflitsy

Adaptation was a weird read but I really liked it! Had dual gender love interests and some sci fi elements and moved quickly!

It‘s so frustrating when a book that seems at first to normalize queer identity, then baldly shames relationship approaches other than strict monogamy. Or to take it one further as in this case, applies gender to how we approach intimate relationships. 😒

Spent an extra night at the hotel I booked for my aunt‘s wedding so I could enjoy the pool and hot tub in and around my workday.

Not going to make my book group due to vacation, but started the book on the dock today. I‘m sure it will be a quick read, I‘m trying to remember what made this book queer enough that we chose it 🤷‍♂️

4/5⭐ Whew, this book was action packed from page one! I couldn't put it down and finished across just two evenings. There were definitely plot moments that felt weak to me, but overall I really enjoyed the complex characters, their diverse relationships, and the consistent tension. It was especially nice to see a positively portrayed mother character in a YA sci-fi. #projectSAMS #TIABchallenge

One of my most favorite things is reading a book and then seeing it adapted to a movie, television series, play, etc. What are your favorites? Anything so bad you still had to watch it? Looking to add to my #tbr #booktomoviereads

I liked the idea overall but it definitely stretched my suspension of disbelief a few times. I didn‘t find the characters particularly engaging and I almost didn‘t care what happened to them 🤷🏼‍♀️ While I appreciated Lo‘s handling of Reese‘s sexuality, love triangles aren‘t my bag no matter what combination of genders is involved 👋🏻

#Riotgrams Day 17: freebies. One of the cool things about moderating writer panels is that I sometimes get free books. My fav freebie came in 2012. I was moderating a panel at the James River Writers Conference which included the amazing YA author Malinda Lo. I had contacted her publisher before the release of her sci-fi novel Adaptation to see if I could get an ARC. The publisher surprised me by sending a hardback copy instead. #MalindaLo #scifi
