"With memorable characters and page-turning thrills, A Blade So Black is the fantasy book I've been waiting for my whole life. Alice is Black Girl Magic personified." Angie Thomas, #1 New York Times-bestselling author of The Hate U Give In this thrilling sequel to A Blade So Black, Alice goes deeper into a dark version of Wonderland. Still reeling from her recent battle (and grounded until she graduates), Alice must abandon her friends to complete her mission: find The Heart and prevent the Red Lady's rise. But the deeper she ventures into Wonderland, the more topsy-turvy everything becomes. Its not until shes at her wits end that she realizesWonderland is trying to save her. Theres a new player on the board; a poet capable of using Nightmares to not only influence the living but raise the dead. This Poet is looking to claim the Black Queens powerand Alice's budding abilitiesas their own. Dreams have never been so dark in Wonderland, and if there is any hope of defeating this mystery poets magic, Alice must confront the worst in herself, in the people she loves, and in the very nature of fear itself. An Imprint Book Praise for A Blade So Black: "Mixing elements of Alice in Wonderland and Buffy the Vampire Slayer... a delectable urban twist on beloved fairy tales." Entertainment Weekly "A brash, refreshing, vitally diverse retelling of a classic... You need this book." Tor.com "This really is Lewis Carroll by way of Buffy, and it makes for a fun, gritty urban fantasy... will set the new standard for teen readers." NPR "A dark, thrilling fantasy-meets-contemporary story with a kickass heroine." Bustle

❤️Book 2 spends more time in Wonderland. As the world, magic and politics gets described in depth, the characters seek to prove themselves &rescue their eachother, themselves &friends presumed lost.
Enjoyed that the love story didn‘t take the focus, it started to set up as a “love corner”, it never became a triangle -but it hypothetically could bc it‘s #LGBTQ friendly. Fairly tidy ending (book 1 was a cliffhanger) which is good bc 3 is out 2023.

Planned a Staycation to take some time off with my bf, go see Uncharted, and get a couple things done around the house… which turned into more things to get done around the house and getting a tooth extracted. I‘m trying to tell myself it‘s ok because I‘ll be able to read ACOMAF in my down time 🥲

The only current read that‘s really hooked me is A Dream So Dark. But we‘ll see.

LiteraryinLawrence Sorry about your tooth! Not the perfect way you planned to spend the time off but I hope you feel better soon! 2y
5feet.of.fury @LiteraryinLawrence Thanks! It has to get done unfortunately so I‘m just going to take as much advantage of my forced relaxation as I can. 2y

They switched of perspectives AND narrators, which they didn‘t do in the first book …and I…. Don‘t know about this. Male narrators doing female voices, I have a hard time with. no matter what‘s happening they make it sound childish and hysterical. Which Courtney actually is, but still.

I loved that we got to see more of Wonderland in this book and was glad that some of the side characters were given more to do. However, the sudden switch from a singular narrator to three different ones was a bit jarring and took some getting used to. Now I just have to wait for the next book to come out!

Some nights I wish I slept as well as our little Ty. Being awake is great for finishing books, but my eyes won't close again because of ALL the thoughts. One way I deal us by running the scenarios - Bad/Good/Likely. You can read more about that exercise in my blog - https://labourgeois.biz/2021/01/22/run-your-scenarios/

On the other hand, what are your favorite reads to help you sleep? I'm reading the tagged book right now.

This is a great continuation of the imaginative retelling of Alice in Wonderland. There were some new characters and adventures with new magical creatures that added to the fun if the story. The book keeps up a good pace and I was completely absorbed in the dynamics between the characters. I am glad the third book is already out.

2nd book read for #24B4Monday

This was a good second installment in the series. I like that the ending wrapped things up nicely but left it open for more.
I appreciate the diversity in this fantasy novel. Its always nice to see that kind of representation in one my favorite genres.

Oh my goodness!!! This book has me in the feels! It was a great sequel. There is going to be a third in the series coming in 2021 — I am not sure if I can wait that long. The ending gave you a little bit of closure but opened you up for more to come. This adaptation of Alice in wonderland is fun, modern, & sweet. Between the battle scenes, friendships, & the love of Addison & Alice. Fun & Easy read! #woc #poc #diversity #fantasy #teamhatter

Completing the series. I do like Nana Kingston. Edited: while the second book does have an ending to the major thread there are enough unfinished minor threads to indicate a third book is coming.

A Dream So Dark is better than the 1st, but only by a little. I could tell the writing had gotten better but the development of the story did not. At first I enjoyed the Japanese and Anime references but it became cringeworthy when they were over used. Especially when it was used a lot during the first book. By the end of the book we didn't know who the bad girl was and we spent the whole book in confusion as to who she was in the first place.

I said I wouldn't read A Dream So Dark after Reading A Blade So Dark. The first installment was so so so bad, but I curious and maybe this one will be better.

A really enjoyable follow up to A Blade So Black. There are three narrators for the audio for this one and while the narration was great, one narrator was using a far more Southern tone for the American characters. Amusing but not distracting from the story.
