The Winner's Crime
The Winner's Crime | Marie Rutkoski
Following your heart can be a crimeA royal wedding is what most girls dream about. It means one celebration after another: balls, fireworks, and revelry until dawn. But to Kestrel it means living in a cage of her own making. As the wedding approaches, she aches to tell Arin the truth about her engagement: that she agreed to marry the crown prince in exchange for Arin's freedom. But can Kestrel trust Arin? Can she even trust herself? For Kestrel is becoming very good at deception. She's working as a spy in the court. If caught, she'll be exposed as a traitor to her country. Yet she can't help searching for a way to change her ruthless world . . . and she is close to uncovering a shocking secret. This dazzling follow-up to The Winner's Curse reveals the high price of dangerous lies and untrustworthy alliances. The truth will come out, and when it does, Kestrel and Arin will learn just how much their crimes will cost them.

Almost too much pain and angst! There is enough miscommunication and stubbornness in this book to drive the most level-headed person crazy. I‘m a lot of ways, it really felt like a set up for the finally installment.

The end of this book was utterly making me anxious, like: 'OMG, this is killing me' and 'where is the next book now?' distressing, Lol.
If it were for the last chapters alone this Audiobook would be a solid five stars, but it took really long for stuff to happen, therefore I must take away one star.
I did enjoy the Audiobook narration of Kate Rawson very much too.

Oh my goodness! I cannot wait to read the next book!!!!! I need it now!
The descriptions in this book did fall flat, but it still made my heart hurt. How could her father do that?! How could any father betray his only child?!?!

Was this book good? Heck YA! Was it stressful and painful? You know it!
This book was nearly the death of me. I almost gave up on it because literally NOTHING goes the way you want it to. However, I kept reading and although the ending was heart wrenching I found the last 100 pages to be super fast paced and entertaining

Rated 4/5 on goodreads :)

I liked this one so much more than the first book. Couldn‘t put it down. Great development of the characters, clever plotting and a nice slow burn on the romance element. Am jumping right into book 3!

Kristy_K I felt the same way! A lot better than book 1. 6y
cariashley @Kristy_K I‘m so glad I continued! I‘m already a third into the last book and it‘s soooo good so far ☺️ 6y

My husband‘s college basketball team had a bad day so he insisted on martinis. Fine with me!! I‘m about a quarter into the second book of this trilogy and it‘s... fine. Waiting for it to pick up.

cariashley @Hollie good call! I saw your earlier post - my husband wants to know if you went to TCU! 6y
Hollie @cariashley no, we are from Kansas. He is a KU fan so I‘ll root for them, too, unless they play UNC lol. What is your husband‘s team? 6y

Well, here's me again with the Winner's trilogy. Comparing to the first book, in this one you can actually see how the author has grown. Much more detailed descriptions, deeper characteristics of the characters, even more sickening twists and great plot. Love the medieval political schemes that are shown through the entire book. But still can't find the connection with fantasy, pure YA. Can't wait to see what happens in the end. 3.6/5

It's painful to read the words describing the death of your favorite character, but then, there are sentences that don't involve death, and hurt the same. This is for me probably the same thing, It's been a while since words that don't include death hit me so hard. 😢😢😢

Really enjoyed the second book in the trilogy and thought that it lead the way for the conclusion of the series 'The Winners Kiss.' I loved the characters and how hard intense this book was to read! The book explores themes of politics, honour, sacrifice and self growth. Highly recommend you check this series out! 5/5 🌟

But he said nothing after that, only her name, as if her name were not a name but a question. Or perhaps that wasn't how he had said it, and she was wrong, and she'd heard a question simply because the sound of him speaking her name made her wish that she were his answer.

After being less than impressed with book 1, I'm glad I gave book 2 a chance because I enjoyed it more than I expected to. All aspects of the story felt improved upon. I loved Arin's journey and that he had a stronger storyline this time. The whirlwind ending made me interested in what happens next.

StephTKO I'm on hold at the library for book 1. Good to know I shouldn't give up if I don't love it. 8y
CaitlinSiem @StephTKO Definitely. Although I was the minority with not being a fan of book one. But either way, this was a much stronger book. I could see the author's skill improving as I read. Which is always important to me. 8y

Lylah @DianeL I actually really wasn't expecting it to be this good but I guess that's what I get for judging a book by its cover! 8y
Otherworld_Library Yes, covers, and even summaries, so often fail the book. I think the new covers they did are worse though. 8y
