Such a good book, filled with rock n roll & angst & worries & learning how to find yourself. It‘s a great #MiddleGrade book, and I wish I had this to read when I was in middle school...while I did not go through everything in Melly‘s life, my constant struggles with bullies and unsupportive teachers left me with pretty similar feelings. I‘m also a 90s girl, so anything about internal angst totally works for me! ❤️ Melly and her strength to excel.

I love it when quotes speak to me! I actually had to read this passage a couple of times to allow the words to sink into me. This. This is what it means to be quiet in a loud world.

This was the fluffy read I needed right now. Melly, a drummer, goes to music camp with her best friend, the day after her parent drop a bomb in the household. New people, new bands, plenty of new experiences, and bunches of fluff. A bit of a serious undertone, but a happy ending. The equivalent of a nice blanket and a cup of tea spiced with teen angst. But the reasonable kind. 🍵🍵

this is what i‘d call a “feel-good” book. it‘s a nice story and a book you might return to if you‘re ever in need of a comforting tale. regardless, i thought this book was pretty good! i would recommend this book if you‘re ever in need of a simple, comforting coming-of-age story.

I enjoyed this summer camp story of friendship and first love. The puns were amusing, and the messages of finding your own identity while negotiating friendships, crushes, and family issues were well written. Yet, the best parts for me were the musical descriptions, and I even found a Tolkien reference.

Drummer Melly is excited to go to music camp with her outgoing BFF Olivia— until her parents announce their divorce just days before camp. And Olivia‘s interest in a boy pushes Melly out of the way even as Melly‘s friendship with a new girl seems to be blossoming into something more. Loved this book. Lots of fun - quick and entertaining with a genuine voice. It felt like it must have been fun to write. She really got into the psyche of middle school kids. I found the language and dialogue convincing. I remembered some of the drama from when I was in middle school. It made me reminiscent for these years and relieved that I was not in the midst of them. The exploration of relationships was innocent with starry-eyed realism.
