The summer I was 15yrs I read my mother's catalog of Sidney Sheldon books and was riveted by the intrigue, and the ballsy, sharp women who were the epitome of the 80s.

That was a good summer, I'd stay up all night reading and wake up at 4pm when my boyfriend got home from and called me. The good old days 😌

dabbe I too have extremely fond memories reading these books. You couldn't put them down! I seem to remember reading a lot of them when I was babysitting and then I'd be scared knowing I was the only (ahem) adult in the house. ❣️🤣❣️ 1y
TheBookgeekFrau @dabbe No, you really couldn't put them down!! So much so I would've been afraid that crying children wouldn't even have broken my attention 🤣 1y
dabbe @TheBookgeekFrau 🤣🤣🤣 1y

marleed I thrifted a hardback of a couple summers ago, read it and gave it 5 stars. A visiting sister saw my copy and was so envious - it‘s among her favorite books ever. So I gave it to her on a return visit - honestly I couldn‘t have purchased anything that she‘d have loved more. I keep looking but haven‘t come across another hardback since so I‘m so glad I spent those 2 bucks when I did! 1y
TheBookgeekFrau @marleed The simplest of gifts are always the best! ... Yeah, it's hard to come by hardcovers of his books and I get so mad that my Mom just willy nilly got rid of hers😤 It's very possible it was her copy you thrifted and gifted; in which case 😊 1y
marleed @TheBookgeekFrau haha - wouldn‘t that be the best! 1y
UwannaPublishme I‘m sure I still have my copy of this book somewhere. 😁 I agree. It‘s a page turner! 1y

Picked up three Sidney Sheldon conspiracy suspense recently thrifting and secondhand; in the mood for the theme/genre/author because of other books and media I'm consuming, but haven't been able to decide which to begin with (chronologically, switch themes?). Currently in a financial/investment crime conspiracy kick, or the alternative BBB---badder business bureau (more accurate, right?).

Other Side of Midnight | Sidney Sheldon
Pickpick

The Other Side of Midnight” by Sidney Sheldon
In this book the women are ultra beautiful - and also high-powered executives or creatives, great in the kitchen and the bed. The men are either wealthy - owning everything from gold mines to polo ponies or handsome no matter how old they are. Lawyers are bastards and everyone is in love. Groundbreaking for its time now upon a re-read perhaps a little over the top. Nevertheless, a definite classic.

Oh my goodness my mystery loving Littens, if you haven‘t read this 1973 piece of work, give it a try. As I was reading, I couldn‘t help but respect Sidney Sheldon‘s ability to keep his reader engaged in both his characters and the direction of his story. Honestly, if I were a teacher of budding writers, I‘d have them read this one. It‘s also pretty racy for the time.

Julsmarshall I read this as a teenager, many eons ago, and remember enjoying it but none of the details. I may need to re-read! 4y
marleed @Julsmarshall I was expecting to muddle through this book with hopes of a so-so rating. But I loved it - story and character development - even the supporting characters. The only time I considered the age of the book was in the racy parts - I couldn‘t help but think of the 1973 readers! 4y
Crazeedi Oh my I totally forgot about this book, which I read in 1973!!! Read many by this author, he had many bestsellers 4y

marleed @Crazeedi I‘d be always wanted to read it because one of my sisters hails this as the book the started her love of reading. I‘m so glad I finally read it. I also have the sequel which I think was written nearly 20 years later. I kind of want to sit with this one for a bit before reading 4y
GinaKButler This was one of my favorites by him...I think I read them all in high school and college? 😊 4y
marleed @GinaKButler I‘d never read a book he wrote. Maybe he‘s now my favorite new-to-me author! 4y
Crazeedi @marleed I don't know if I ever read the sequel! Thanks, I now need to check it out. I may actually need to reread this one too! 4y
ValerieAndBooks I feel like I might have read one or two of his books back in the day! As in, picking up a copy my parents might have had lying around. Don‘t think he was ever a regular author for them though. Danielle Steel definitely was for my mom 🙂 4y
marleed @ValerieAndBooks I grew up with a book reading dad and snuck a few of his books (umm, the Exorcist). I wonder if Sidney Sheldon books were sold mostly to women because I don‘t recall seeing them in his library. 4y
CocoReads I loved Sidney Sheldon back in the day! I may have to reread. Him, Jackie Collins, and Judith Krantz made up a large portion of my teenaged reading years. 4y

I remember everyone and their mother reading this one in the 70s. I couldn't put it down. And then when the movie came out...ooh la la. ☺️💕
