Mehso-so

(1987) Testosteroney, sometimes ridiculously so, and starry-eyed about royalty. But it promises thrills and then delivers them. If this is the kind of thing you like then you'll like it pretty well. On balance, I liked it better than expected.

Just posted a new episode over on our Patreon page! We're doing another thriller, which is quite frankly, thrilling. We nominated about 14 books and we are leaving it up to our Patrons to select what we do for the read-along. So head over there and check it out!

Bk13 of March is done. I first read this over 20yrs ago before my copy was “borrowed” and never seen again. It‘s a little bit dated, it was written in 1987 after all, but it‘s still a gripping thriller. Former marine Jack Ryan is in London on holiday when he is involved in an attempted kidnapping of the Prince Of Wales. After thwarting the Irish terrorists, he becomes a target himself while also being headhunted by the CIA.

Kicking off tonight‘s session of uninterrupted reading with this chunkster of a thriller. Bk13 of March, it unfortunately doesn‘t count towards my #MarchUnshelfing #challenge total, but it‘s due back to the library this week & I have another stack waiting in reserve for me there. Our libraries aren‘t shut as of now, fingers crossed it stays that way🤞 This will be my #BookAndMovie pick for a few challenges, I love the Harrison Ford/Sean Bean movie

Bk3 of my #librarybookhaul is a classic thriller from Tom Clancy.I was flicking through Foxtel & came across the Harrison Ford movie which made me all nostalgic to read it again. Of course,my original copy has gone bye byes since I read it last over 20yrs ago, so I borrowed a copy instead. It‘s so depressing to go looking for a much loved book only to find it missing.😢Jack Ryan is in London to give a talk when he gets involved in an IRA shootout.

📖Great introduction to Jack Ryan‘s world, although a little tedious at times (for me) in the Irish terrorism parts because I kept getting the different characters and groups mixed up. I LOVED reading about Jack, his family, how he ended up with his CIA job, and how they solved the big crime.

🎧I added the audio, narrated by the fabulous Scott Brick. Not my favorite Brick-his Irish and British accents threw me off a bit. I would still recommend!

BooksBikes12 Such a fan of Clancy. Hunt for Red October is my favorite book from him. 6y
intothehallofbooks @Books_Bikes_12 I wasn‘t expecting to like the Clancy book as much as I did-I thought I would be bored by the entire thing! I‘m glad I picked it up. If I stick to the chronological ordered list, I need to read Red Rising and then I‘ll get to The Hunt for Red October. 6y

My first Clancy! I‘m almost halfway thru this one in print + audio, narrated by Scott Brick. I‘ve already watched the entire Jack Ryan show on Amazon 2x, so I decided to start the books. This is good, I like it.

I love the way Amazon makes their book-to-movie shows so you can read or watch first and you aren‘t really spoiled for anything. Or at least this one and Bosch (MY FAVORITE). The show supposedly isn‘t based on any of the books per Amazon.

DGRachel Yep. They just took the characters and plopped them in current events. I loved the early Clancy novels featuring Jack Ryan and I loved the Amazon series, but beyond names, they really have little to do with each other. 6y

Dewey's Readathon:Alternative. This book is about the collapse of New York due to a virus and is based off Tom Clancy's book and the video game The Division. The main character was given a survival book as a gift and when the collapse happens she writes all of her notes in the margins. There are hidden clues you help discover with her and there are lots of pullouts and maps to look at. A great alternative book! #30daysofreadathon #readathon

Found this great deal for Kindle in my email today. I can't count how many times I've watched this movie, so back in 2007 I finally decided to read the book. I loved it and was shocked at how much of the book didn't make it into the movie. May have to reread this one just to relive the fast-paced plotting and suspense.

Need some help from you Litsy folks! I want to get my hubby a few new books, he has expressed an interest in reading more but I think he has a hard time picking books. He likes things like Tom Clancy...fast-paced, plot driven, but more current, preferably involving fighting terrorism, the military, spies, or political intrigue. Anyone have any recommendations? Not my genre so I'm lost!

Cinfhen @Claireluana I just finished THE BLACK WIDOW by Daniel Silva, it's literally ripped from the headlines. It involves US, French & Israeli intelligence agencies collaborating to fight ISIS. This is part of a spy series but it still reads fine as a stand alone. I REALLY enjoyed this read, it was fast paced, thrilling but smart and well written. 8y
brendanmleonard He might enjoy Robert Stone, Charles McCarry, John LeCarre. This is recent, a technothriller that really moves: 8y
LeahBergen Check out the series by Lee Child. My friend's husband sounds very much like yours and he became addicted to them! 😀 8y

Imagineannie My husband likes similar things, and likes Daniel Silva, Robert Ludlum, Michael Connelly, Alan Furst and Bernard Cornwell. He found LeCarre rather heavy going. 8y
Zelma Tom Robb Smith is another current one I can think of. His book Child 44 was just made into a movie. 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 My husband reads Lee Child too. Plus he also enjoys Craig Johnson's Longmire books, Ace Atkins, William Kent Krueger, John Sandford. 8y
Claireluana @Cinfhen I will check that out! Sounds right up his alley! 8y
Claireluana @brendanmleonard Skinner sounds a little Jason Bourne-esque! Will definitely check these out! 8y
Claireluana @LeahBergen @kaysreadinglife hubby definitely likes Jack Reacher movies so will check out Lee Child! Thanks for the other great recommendations as well! 8y
Claireluana @Imagineannie @Zelma thank you so much! I will check these out! 8y
