Pickpick

A delightful audiobook about a young librarian in a small town who‘s trying to save her library from closing down. I liked the majority of the characters (especially the grumpy old man who lives next door), and although I seen the ending coming almost immediately, I still enjoyed it.

Here are my stats for Day 2 of #BFCR2. Another hallway walk at 1030pm got me over my 10,000 step goal. Hoping the rain has stopped by tomorrow. #FitWizards

Lova You‘re starting out strong! I don‘t have a Fitbit. I have an Apple Watch so I don‘t get those cute little readout screens. :(. 5y

I‘m a little bit torn about this book. On one hand, it‘s exactly as advertised, part ode to the small town library, part mystery, with just a splash of romance. It could have been the Gilmore girls of literature with its cast of quirky characters and hometown charm, but it falls way too short to get more than a passing “what if” of a comparison. Predictable in nature, I‘d recommend this to Littens, if only for its love affair with libraries.

September has been a pathetic reading month time wise, so I‘m keeping it short and sweet with my next read.

This book was ok. It was a NetGalley ARC so the editing hadn't been completed, so that may have been a reason why I struggled with the text conversations, as it was really disjointed.
The back story was good, but the ending was predictable.

I meant to be all productive today, but my cold is lingering and all I wanted to do is curl up with a book. Finished one and about to begin this one!

CocoReads I‘ve finished 3 today. Of course, I stayed up all night reading to do it. Hope you feel better soon! 6y

This ARC is good. Funny. Romantic. With lots of bookish love.
Greta is a librarian. One day a hot guy walks into the library and nearly leaves Greta speechless. Turns out he's her birthday present from her best friend Will.
Later, when Greta invites both men to dinner, ... (see above)

Saturday morning reading in bed. We wanted to sleep in but the kitten had other plans and woke us. Well, we fed the cat and now my daughter is reading in her bed and I'll be reading in mine.

Remember that stack of books from yesterday? My daughter sorted through it and made a TBR. She explained it all to me and I had tears swimming in my eyes. I was so proud of her.

Reading an ARC about a librarian - but I'm not very far in yet

Texreader You and your daughter rock!! 6y
julesG @Texreader Aww! Thanks! How are you and your kids doing! 6y
Texreader @julesG Tough school year for Ariel. She‘s managed, however to get all her grades up to As but for one class. Trying my hardest to support her but biology is killing her. She‘s got a college load for a freshman in high school. Aidan‘s doing great!! Thanks for asking! 6y
julesG @Texreader I can imagine it's tough for Ariel. Tell her to hang in there and not to worry too much about this one class. Biology can be tough to understand. 6y

The concept sounded cute and fun--retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac with librarian heroine. But it did not work for me. This might just be a hard retelling to pull off in modern day. Hard to believe the heroine wouldn't figure out something weird was going on way sooner, and that the hero would mislead her this way. Also, the texts/poems/lines that won the heroine over...I couldn't imagine someone actually saying those things in real life.

Leave this book on the shelf and pick something, anything, else up instead. A rudimentary, PSA-for-libraries plot serves up lukewarm romance by the slightly offensive and entirely patronizing (not to mention subversively body-shaming) spoonful. Check Me Out will leave you with a lingering sour taste on your literary tongue.

Halfway through this Edelweiss ARC and it is a template for how to alienate a reader with an adorable premise assassinated by a clunky plot, a subversively unlikeable heroine who, unless she gets her shit together, will 100% die alone and large chunks of blank pages where I'm assuming some text conversations between characters will go. 🤦🏼‍♀️
