Laurence Dalziel is worn down and washed up, and for him, the BDSM scene is all played out. Six years on from his last relationship, he's pushing forty and tired of going through the motions of submission. Then he meets Toby Finch. Nineteen years old. Fearless, fierce, and vulnerable. Everything Laurie can't remember being. Toby doesn't know who he wants to be or what he wants to do. But he knows, with all the certainty of youth, that he wants Laurie. He wants him on his knees. He wants to make him hurt, he wants to make him beg, he wants to make him fall in love. The problem is, while Laurie will surrender his body, he won't surrender his heart. Because Toby is too young, too intense, too easy to hurt. And what they have-no matter how right it feels-can't last. It can't mean anything. It can't be real.

sarahbarnes I always take a book with me, even places like work where I know I won‘t have time to actually read it, and I call it my emotional support book. 😂 11mo
Gissy Great way to see it. I do the same. My friends ask me, why you bring a book if you know will not read it?”🤷🏽‍♀️ ☺️ 11mo

Impulse buy based on a post about it on #OSRBC. Not the first time those ladies cost me 💵. May/December BDSM #romantsy with the younger man being dominant. Big age gaps aren‘t my favorite thing but it works in this story. The power dynamics and emotional complexities of the relationship turn a lot of tropes upside down. I had to force myself to stop reading because work. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Really fabulous.

CarolynM Alexis Hall is a really good writer. It's a shame he likes his day job so much😂 5y
Christy2318 @CarolynM LOL. I will definitely bring reading more of his work! 5y

I don‘t know why I keep trying these more erotic books; I know they aren‘t my thing. The ladies on get booked just sell them so well! There was lots of character stuff going on, not just sex, but still not my thing.

If you need a sweet-but-very, very-hot m/m BDSM romance (edges toward erotica maybe?) this is for you. I loved the development of the relationship between Laurie and Toby. There‘s a 17 year age gap, so with the basic romance plot are some growing pains, old broken-heart issues, and complications that arise when the Dom is the younger and still working out how to go about his kink. (Toby is also a good cook, so be prepared for serious foodie envy.)

balletbookworm But I really loved Laurie‘s super-snarky inner monologue from page 1, his whole annoyance with having to put on a costume to get his rocks off as a sub. 6y

I've lost all ability to can after finishing this. Tender, empathetic, hot, kinky, brilliance.
