I found another x book for #litsyatoz if anyone needs one; it‘s helpfully an ebook. But it has a pretty low score here on Litsy so I‘ll stick with the two I found at a used bookstore last week (tagged below). #letterx

Picked this up to fulfill X on my "A to Z" challenge (not a lot of books out there that start with X). Lots of elements I find interesting - Mayan mythology, archeological digs, historical artifact theft, mysterious disappearances, so it should've been an easy read, but man I just could not get into this. I do know that others may really enjoy this though so do pick it up if it intrigues.

This was uneven. I loved the parts about Mayan history and culture, and the setting in Mexico. (As an aside, I was very saddened to hear about the recent earthquakes that hit there.) However, the mystery part of it wasn't much work to figure out. I got the details wrong, but the evil characters were obvious. There were also distracting typos; since the author passed away in 2009 perhaps someone else is at fault for that. #LitsyAtoZ #Canadianauthor

I picked this one because I needed #LetterX for #LitsyAtoZ. I did figure out who did it pretty early in the story but I found the Mayan Mythology part of the story very interesting. I need to find out more about the Mayans. @BookishMarginalia

I'm enjoying the Mayan parts (I know nothing about this so I'm easily pleased) but the occasional typo is a bit distracting 😕.

*sigh* I wanted it to be good, but it really wasn't. It dragged SO MUCH for the first two-thirds, and the action in the last third wasn't enough to make up for it. Also, and I know I'm being pedantic but it bugs me, I can't take a book that claims to be an archaeological mystery seriously if the author uses shards instead of sherds :( blame it on all those graduate classes.

"I felt his lips brush the back of my neck." Wait, huh? Isn't that a weird place for a first kiss? As in the person being kissed is facing the other direction? This description is bothering me since I just can't picture it...

Read as my "X" for the A to Z challenge. It was ok. Just have Q left!!!

Another engaging mystery! Again nothing surprising, but kept me interested. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the Mayan history. #X #LitsyAtoZ

Finally chose my X letter book for the #LitsyAtoZ challenge. Only 1.99 so that's good (like I need more books 😬)!

Finished my choice for X in #LitsyAtoZ. Was expecting an Elizabeth Peters type mystery, but this had none of the charm and wit. The writing style was awkward and clunky, and the main character far too pedantic and lacking humour. Because of the style, however, I enjoyed the long lecture-style passages on Mayan history more than I did the actual story. Feel bad to pan my first entry for the challenge but would not recommend.

A good start to the series. The archeological background of the writer permits her to integrate the information in the plot in a good way. Recently divorced and having lost the business she built from the ground up, Lara used to be an antique dealer specializing in archeological pieces, She finds herself at crossroads. She flies out to Mexico's Yucatan to help an old friend and finds herself involve in a series of violent deaths.
