Enemy | Lee Child
Jack Reacher. Hero. Loner. Soldier. Soldier s son. An elite military cop, he was one of the army s brightest stars. But in every cop s life there is one case that changes everything. For Jack Reacher, this is that case. New Year s Day, 1990. In a North Carolina motel, a two-star general is found dead. His briefcase is missing. Nobody knows what was in it. Within minutes Reacher has his orders: " "Control the situation. Within hours the general s wife is murdered. Then the dominoes really start to fall. Somewhere inside the vast worldwide fortress that is the U.S. Army, Reacher is being set up as a fall guy with the worst enemies a man can have. But Reacher won t quit. He s fighting a new kind of war against an enemy he didn t know he had. And against a conspiracy more chilling, ingenious, and treacherous than anyone could have guessed."

This installment in the Jack Reacher series goes back to 1990 to tell a story of one of his Army MP cases, a murder he is ordered to cover up. At the same time, his mother is dying, and he and his brother are finding their own ways of coping. Well written and poignant, it provides a lot of background and insight into Reacher's early life. Helps the reader understand why he is in some ways extremely capable and in others quite helpless.

"We'll always remember her."
"No. We'll remember parts of her, the parts she chose to share, the tip of the iceberg. The rest, only she knew about. Therefore the rest already doesn't exist as of now." Dialogue between 2 brothers upon their mother's death.

Book 8 in the Jack Reacher series and this is where I go for a comfort read. I know I'm guaranteed to be immersed, taken away from reality and it's going to be a 5 star journey.

In this novel we see Jack in the army which Is something I'd been hoping for plus we got a bit of back story with his mother and his relationship with Joe, his brother.

I love the precision in the writing style in these books. Its so simple and straightforward.

This is probably my least-favorite Jack Reacher book so far (maybe tied with Without Fail). It's the 12th full-length Reacher book I've read. [I'm not a fan of the short stories. There's not enough time to get serious and flesh things out.]

If one took a drink every time Child writes “I/she/he/Summer/the guy said nothing,“ one would need emergency care. It has a place in the story, but every other sentence in some sections is too much. We get it!

BookishMe Hahaha... I should ask my husband about that. While between jobs, he read the entire series 😉😉 4y

Another episode I had to go back and watch, I only remembered it vaguely. Overall good episode, a little heavy-handed with the moralizing, but still entertaining.

#StarTrekSummerMay #TheEnemy @Megabooks

Megabooks I liked Geordi‘s diplomacy in this one. It definitely showed some range in his character! 🖖🏻🖖🏻 5y
RamsFan1963 @Megabooks True. Geordi was always an underdeveloped character, down in engineering waiting to tell us the engines were about to blow or something equally catastrophic 5y
Megabooks @RamsFan1963 he was really good at rolling underneath the engineering block out door, that‘s for sure!! 5y

Jack Reacher #8 - This was a really good one! It takes place when Reacher was active military police on a base in North Carolina. It was nice to meet Reacher‘s mom and his brother made several appearances. ❤️ #ReadingUSA2019 #NorthCarolina

10.48 pm here, so time to change the pace of reading and pick up this Jack Reacher book. Quite some time since I read the last one, but keen to get back into Reacher‘s world. #24in48

I'm still surprised that I'm a fan of Lee Child, but I am. What's more, he's becoming one of my "bad mood/ stress reading" go to authors. Reacher always wins but the world isn't ever saccharine or sweet and it's refreshing to see someone doing the right thing, because it's the right thing even while knowing that it's going to cost them. Solid pacing, good and enjoyable plot and some deep & reflexive moments. Highly #recommended ????

MrBook Great review! One of my favorite authors too. 😊👍🏻 7y

I suspect if you polled most, they would not expect wisdom from a Jack Reacher book. They'd be wrong. #quote #unexpected

I enjoyed this story. This is part of the Jack Reacher series which are military mysteries. I do recommend it to anyone who likes those type of mystery books.
