The Best American Comics 2016 | Roz Chast, Bill Kartalopoulos
9 posts | 1 read | 1 reading | 1 to read
Fresh off the success of Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant?, New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast picks the best graphic pieces of the year. It showcases the work of both established and up-and-coming contributors and highlights both fiction and nonfiction from graphic novels, pamphlet comics, newspapers, magazines, minicomics, and the Web to make a collection that is full of varied, provocative feats of cartooning (The Comics Journal ).

#Cupidgoespostal has been staring at me for weeks now. Loved everything in it. Our TBBS person is in love with the notes so If they go missing I know where to look. Thank you so much. The card even sings. !

This anthology is such a great way to discover comics artists I haven't come across before. The variety and quality here is excellent. A wonderful new discovery for me is Cece Bell with an excerpt from her graphic memoir, 'El Deafo'. Now added to my reading list!

ChasingOm Yes! This book is so good!! 7y

Dipping in and putting every single comic on my to-read list. It's a sickness and I don't want to get well.

From Roz Chast's fabulous introduction:
"There was no eureka moment of "my horses came out wrong, but funny. Therefore, I'll be a cartoonist." No, no, no, no, no. But looking back, I might have thought that even if I couldn't draw a perfect horse, drawing a horse that could make me laugh that hard was not nothing."
