I Am Watching You | Teresa Driscoll

I almost did not finish reading this book. The majority of it was boring and stale, but I kept reading because the author strategically placed enough hints throughout to want you to keep reading. You couldn‘t actually GUESS what was going to happen..the hints weren‘t enough. But would I recommend this book as a thriller? No

The first 100 pages during Book 1 are slow. You‘re wondering if things will pick up a bit. However once Book 2 starts, it changes perspective between two women and you‘re left with shocking moments and twists and turns. If you can get through the first 100 pages, you‘ll enjoy the rest.

4🌟/5. During the last 1/5 of the book, the ending became predictable. The majority of the book was well-written and it kept me guessing what the ending would be. Not a 5🌟 as I felt the middle of the book became stale.

100% would recommend. It is an amazing book that will capture your attention within the first few pages. What would you do if your newborn was taken from your home ... while you weren‘t home? Who would you first look at suspiciously? What if EVERYONE was suspicious, for good reason?

I read 110 pages of the book but NOTHING WAS HAPPENING. It was the slowest 110 pages. I‘m not sure if the story picked up after I stopped reading, but I needed SOME excitement to want to keep reading.

This was a mediocre thriller. About 3/4 of the way through, I had narrowed down the killer to two characters and I was right. The first 50 or so pages may seem slow, but it builds up the suspense needed to keep you reading. It was an easy read and I read it in a day (had the day off).

Although the ending left me shocked, the middle 1/4 of the novel was slow. It felt like I was just “waiting” for something to happen, but it was taking too long to get there. I felt some portions could have been condensed, as it felt repeated. Overall, the storyline kept me wanting to read until the end.

The Last Year of the War | Susan Meissner
Bailedbailed

I had read so many great reviews about this book, I was disappointed it did not work out for me. The book seems to be written in the present and the past, depending on the chapter. The first few pages caught my attention; I was hooked. However, once I got to the past ... I felt like I was reading a chapter from a history book. It moved slowly and unfortunately, after reading about 40 pages, I decided I couldn‘t read it anymore.

🌟🌟🌟/5. Although the story was interesting, I felt certain parts of the story was repetitive. I wanted to give it 4🌟 as the ending was shocking, but I could not get past the same recurring scenario of drinking and having alcohol lead to mistakes, being hungover, etc. The book is worth reading if you are looking for a mystery with an unpredictable ending!

🙌🏻 I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this book! Read it in half a day - couldn‘t put it down. Mystery, thriller, fiction. It truly answers the question “who is the child, and what really happened that day?”, except with a twist at the end; it took a bit more concentration the last 1/5 of the book. SO MUCH HAPPENS. Would definitely recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

One of my favorite books I‘ve read in 2019! I would reread it again in a heartbeat. It‘s about a married couple who try to have an open marriage for 6 months, following a set of rules, one of being “no falling in love”. The characters are well developed & take you on a 6 month journey about daily life, marriage struggles, raising children, partnership and love. Would highly recommend!

4/5 - the first 115 pages were slow. But after that, it was difficult to put the book down. Couldn‘t turn the pages fast enough! I didn‘t think the ending was predictable as I sat there in awe feeling fooled! Would definitely recommend.

I was intrigued from the beginning, however, the last 1/4 of the novel could have been condensed. The characters almost got “annoying” to read about - it‘s a very dysfunctional and convoluted family - although cleverly written.

I was excited to read this book, however, it was hard to get through. I think I finished it simply b/c I had gotten too far into the book; I kept waiting for SOMETHING to actually happen. 🌟/5

Woman in Cabin 10 | Ruth Ware
Pickpick

Very easy read, finished reading in half a day. The storyline was interesting & there were definitely surprising twists towards the latter 1/4 of the book. I was between giving this a “pick” vs. a “so-so” rating as it took about 100 pages to really dive into the “actual” juicy part of the novel, but I believe it was worth it. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

I was disappointed that my attention wasn‘t grabbed within the first 100 pages, after reading the positive reviews. The story had shifting perspectives, which I thought made it interesting, but I also thought there were too many (for my liking). I‘m sure the ending would have been great based on other reviews, but unfortunately, the story wasnt captivating enough for me 🌟/5

Night Road | Kristin Hannah

Another favorite it Kristin Hannah‘s. The storyline had a mix of style - Jodi Picoult & Nicholas Sparks - but it was an easy read. The characters were well developed and the story made you feel all different emotions. Would definitely recommend if you‘re looking for a heartfelt novel.

Low Pressure | Sandra Brown
Bailedbailed

I‘ve read a lot of Sandra Brown books and have loved them, but this was not a favorite. The storyline had potential, but it seemed dragged out. Too many repetitive situations occurred, probably to help build up suspense, but I got bored. Wasn‘t curious enough to read through to see what happened in the end.

There were so many memorable quotes from this book!! It‘s told from the mind of a schizophrenic boy who is put on different drug regimens. We see him struggling with his own reality - HIS normal - and trying to conform into what society considers normal, such as falling in love, being bullied by the “popular kids who come from money”, etc. Would definitely recommend for anyone to read.

The Great Alone | Kristin Hannah
Pickpick

The beginning was a bit slow, but as the story progressed, it was hard to put the book down. The story opens up your eyes to the hard truth about life for many, who constantly live in fear. The story takes you through a journey of the different types of love we fall for, the hardships of life, teenage angst, the support of a community, and how true love can win in the end. Definitely recommend.

100% would recommend. The story takes place during WW2 and takes you through the journey of young adults. It encompasses mystery, love, friendship, heartache and life. It isn‘t AS predictable of an ending as one would think while reading. Easy to read book, will finish quickly.

Well-written story that kept me wanting to read until the end. However the first 1/4 of the book was a bit slow for me (it was setting up the remained of the story). Once the story picked up, I couldn‘t put the book down. Towards the end, things became predictable. If you can get through the first 1/4, I would recommend.

Although the historical research seemed to have been well done, the story moved quite slowly for the majority of the novel. It was an interesting thriller to read, however, it was not my preferred writing style. I would recommend the book especially to those who enjoy psychological thrillers.

One of my favorites by Sandra Brown! Suspenseful until the end & although I thought I had predicted the ending, I was completely wrong. Brown added romantic parts throughout the story, developing each character. Difficult to put down the book! Would absolutely recommend.

Although an interesting storyline, I felt as if the characters weren‘t fully developed. You couldn‘t imagine how the characters were feeling through the description and the words, but rather, you were simply told how the characters felt. The storyline could have been better developed, as the setting and the timeline was an interesting time in history. It could have been used as a great murder/thriller, however, there needed to be less explanation.

I am so incredibly THANKFUL that this book was recommended to me. AMAZING BOOK! From the first until the very last sentence, I was fully captivated and invested. Keep Her Safe: A Novel | Sophie Hannah
Mehso-so

This was my first time reading a book written by Sophie Hannah so I have no other works of hers to compare this novel to. However, first 1/2 of the novel was slow-moving. It wasn‘t until the latter half of the novel that the storyline became captivating. Additionally, there were many chapters that had a “script” like entry, which were annoying to read. Made the story longer than needed. Didn‘t seem to add much to the overall story

The Child | Fiona Barton
Bailedbailed

I was excited to read this book after the great reviews, but I got to about page 115 and decided I couldn‘t read it anymore. The storyline was slow, which surprised me; I thought by having the story told through the perspective of 3 women would quicken the pace of the story, but it didn‘t. 115 pages in and I could already predict the ending. Disappointed that this book didn‘t work out for me.

One of the best mystery/thriller/detective books I have ever read. You need to be able to focus on which character the chapter is speaking through, but it‘s not a difficult storyline to follow. Very well developed characters and it kept me guessing the entire time. Thrown for a big surprise in the end! Definitely recommend.

The little blurb on the back cover doesn‘t do the book justice! Easy read, with fun characters. There was suspense kept throughout the book, with a some what predictable ending, although the ending wasn‘t evident early on (in my opinion). Finished the book in a day and half. Nice read for a day of traveling or on the weekend.
