This book is a SF and can be used in the classroom as a LC, IR, SR or GR. #UCFLAE3414SP18
This book is set at the end of the 21st century and Technocrats are in control. In the story Gavin and Fleur get help from a robot named EGR3 to fix their robot Grumps. Eager is a self aware robot who begins to learn things for himself and is capable of emotion. Adventure unfolds when the new robots begin to behave suspicious!

Cruzdia1 A UDL strategy that would pair well with this book is 3.2: Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships. This would fit well with this novel because it provides the opportunity for in depth discussion about the relationship between EGR3 and Gavin. By doing this students will be able to independently or with guidance discuss the relationships between the characters in the story and describe the dynamic between them. (edited) 6y
Cruzdia1 ESOL Strategies that pair well with this novel are 1, 5, and 6. 6y

This is fiction and is a New York Times Best Seller. It can be used in class as a RA, SR, DR, CR or PR. #UCFLAE3414SP18
This is a very unique book and had never seen anything like it. It is exactly what it sounds like! This book encourages the reader to get silly with their audience and there‘s nothing students love more than hearing their teacher make all kinds of silly noises! Every classroom should have a copy of this book!

AndreaG I love this idea...forcing kids to use their creativity to make things interesting. Also, I love that BJ Novak wrote it. He was a writer on one of my favorite shows: The Office 6y
Cruzdia1 A UDL strategy that pairs well with this book is 1.3: Offer alternatives for visual information. This strategy is perfect because this book does not have any illustrations and therefore in order to make the text interesting and fun for students the teacher must read it in an animated way and essentially present the information in a different way! 6y
Cruzdia1 ESOL Strategies that pair well with this book are: 25 and 14. By acting out many of the things in this story allows second language learners to follow along easily because of the heavy use of gestures. 6y

This book is RF and can be used in the classroom as a LC, AS, IR or GR. #UCFLAE3414SP18
This book is about a mischievous boy, creative thought, and the power of words! In the story, Nick decides to invent a new word but before he knows it everyone starts using the word! This proves to be a problem for Nick when his no non sense teacher demands he put an end to it! This is a must read!

Cruzdia1 A UDL strategy that pairs well with this book is 8.3: Foster collaboration and community. This can be achieved by doing a GR of this book with your students and engaging them in working in groups or in whole group while reading this book. Furthermore, students can be broken up into groups and collaborate on answering comprehension questions about the story. 6y
Cruzdia1 An ESOL strategy that pairs well with this activity is 44: Focus in thinking skills; predict, categorize, classify, observe and report. This can be done when students are working in groups to answer comprehension based questions in order to scaffold student understanding which will ultimately allow them to engage in the reading more in depth. 6y
Cruzdia1 The teaching resource that I found for this book is a lesson plan from Schoolastic which can be used with students in grades 3-5. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/frindle-lesson... 6y
DrSpalding Thorough and thoughtful. Minor errors. Excellent job aligning universal design principles to the book and follow up activity. 6y

This book follows actual scientists in their daily work from the field to the lab. Not only does this book do a wonderful job at conveying scientific concepts through engaging narratives but also through captivating photography! It also features text features like captions, keys, footnotes and more!

paulettevp This book sounds like it‘s perfect for teaching scientific method or including it in an animal kingdom lesson. I‘m definitely going to check it out. 6y
Cruzdia1 A UDL strategy that pairs well with this book is 6.3: Facilitate managing information and resources. This strategy is perfect for this book because this book has key text features that have to be taught explicitly to students who have limited exposure to them. This can be done through helping student manage this new information in an easy to understand manner. 6y
Cruzdia1 An ESOL strategy that pairs well with this book is 23: Structure advanced organizers consisting for new terminology that learners will encounter in the new lesson vocabulary to be reviewed. An example of this is providing students with a visual aid of different definitions like key term, glossary, footnote and captions. 6y

This book is F, and a Laura Ingalls Wilder award winner. It can be used in the classroom as a RA, S, AS, IR or PR. #UCFLAE3414
This book is about a mouse who sets out to make a friend. It is a unique book because it only features text on the 1st page which makes it a great book for young children who are still learning how to read. However, the illustrations make it captivating for a variety of ages!

Cruzdia1 A UDL strategy that pairs well with this book is 2.4: Promote understanding across languages. This book is great for that because of the reduced amounts of text which makes it easier for ELLs to understand, follow along and participate. 6y
Cruzdia1 An ESOL strategy that pairs well with this book is 36: Ask numerous questions which require higher level thinking responses. While reading this book you can ask students higher order questions like “Why do you think it is important to make friends?” “How can we show someone that we would like to be friends with them?” “What are characteristics of a good friend?” 6y
Cruzdia1 The resource that I attached for this book is a 5-Day gradual release lesson plan so that you and students can explore the different themes in this story in depth. This activity would work best with younger students. http://www.hubbardscupboard.org/do-you-want-to-be-my-friend/ (edited) 6y

This book is a RF & a Sunshine State Young Readers award winner! This book can be used in the classroom as a LC, GR, AS, or RA. #UCFLAE3414SP18
It is about a girl who visits her local supermarket & returns home with a scruffy dog who becomes the reason behind a very interesting summer. Winn Dixie helps Opal make friends, and gain the courage to ask her father about her absent mother. This is a must read for animal lovers or dog parents out there!

Cruzdia1 A UDL strategy that pairs well with this book is 5.3: Build fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance. This strategy works well with this book because it allows you to delve into the specific vocabulary that‘s used in this book and open up those discussions to your students. 6y
Cruzdia1 An ESOL strategy that pairs well with this book is 45: Use venom diagrams to contrast and compare. This can be done to make comparisons and contrasts between the characters in the story. You can also modify this activity and make it more rigorous by encouraging students to compare/contrast amongst the different characters. By doing this students will be able to easy see how the characters change and how it makes the story progress. 6y
Cruzdia1 The teaching resource that I thought would be helpful for this book are these neat 5 chapter increment comprehension question worksheets. https://www.superteacherworksheets.com/m/?s=book-because-of-winn-dixie.html these can be used to keep students on task while reading and as a form of assessment to check for understanding. This book is both a HF and a BF, as well as a Jane Addams award winner. This book can be used in the classroom as a RA, S, IR, SR or CR. #UCFLAE3414
Steamboat School is inspired by the life of Reverend John Berry Meachum who fought tirelessly for the rights of African Americans. This book tells the story of how he managed to teach a group of children despite the odds against them! This book is a must have for any classroom library!

Cruzdia1 A UDL strategy that pairs well with this book is 9.1: promote expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation. This is a great strategy to use with this book because it can be related to how the children in the book drew were motivated to learn because of their lack of resources and truly desired to learn despite obstacles that they faced. 6y
Cruzdia1 An ESOL strategy that pairs well with this book is 28: Provide biographies of significant men and women. This is a great strategy to use since this book is influenced by the life of Reverend John Meachum and it would allow you to bring in texts about him and other influential people during this time in addition to this book. 6y
Cruzdia1 The teaching resource that I attached for this book is a biographical online page detailing different aspects of Reverend John Meachum. http://www.blackpast.org/aah/meachum-john-berry-1789-1854 This will be useful to incorporate into your lesson when exploring this book. 6y

This is a very cute and relatable story which serves to remind us to try to view things from the perspective of others. One of the lessons that this book can teach children is that just because someone‘s opinion may be different than yours, it does not mean they are wrong! This book also features a silly unexpected twist at the end!

Cruzdia1 A useful UDL strategy for this book is 4.1: Vary the methods for response and navigation. While reading this story you can welcome students to respond to the story in a variety of ways. For example, you can have them recreate the facial expressions of the characters in the story. 6y
Cruzdia1 An ESOL strategy that would work with this book is 3: Encourage self talk. This can be done during a RA. You can ask students leading questions about the story in order to scaffold student understanding. 6y
Cruzdia1 The resource that I picked for this book is a link to a TPT site which has activities like: create a creature, big and small hands and feet t-shirt craft, measurement lesson with printable, , or = lesson with printable, patterns printable and a printable growth chart for the classroom. This can be done by conducting a shared reading with an audio book version of the text to allow students to follow along the story with. (edited) 6y

This book features a wonderful array of photographs that illustrate this time period in American history and would be a great book to feature during Black History Month! It‘s about a group of civil rights activists who launched the Freedom Ride aiming to challenge the practice of segregation on buses in the South.

Cruzdia1 A great UDL strategy that can be used with this book is 7.1: Optimize individual choice and autonomy. An ESOL strategy that can be incorporated into this class is 14: simplify your speech by making it slower and more redundant. (edited) 6y

KaitlynN I think this is such a cool book. I‘m excited to read it. It‘s so amazing to me when authors can take an unfamiliar culture, or place, and make it super relatable. I think it would be great to use a book like this in class because, although not all kids know someone from another country, or culture, they can all find a way to relate to having a little sister, being a little sister, knowing someone with a sister, having a younger cousin or friend. 6y
