Do You Want to Be My Friend?
Do You Want to Be My Friend? | Eric Carle
4 posts | 6 read
"Do you want to be my friend?" asks the lonely little mouse. He follows a tai1, but all he finds at its end is a rather unfriendly horse. The little mouse just wants someone to play with-but he'll have to follow a lot of tails before he can find just the right companion.

#WeRemember Day 17: #EricCarle‘s books are brilliant. I could imagine young toddlers squealing in delight and being deeply engaged in the plot and subplot of this story, possibly offering their educated guesses based on the hint of a tail, suggestions of a feather or a fur as could be seen in the right hand page. #FallFinds Day 9: Not really a #FuschiaCover but more a fuschia-feathered pointed tail - what animals could these be? This sets the tone for the entire book – I could imagine young toddlers squealing in delight and being deeply engaged in the plot and subplot of this wordless story. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-13a - Classic Eric Carle.

This book is F, and a Laura Ingalls Wilder award winner. It can be used in the classroom as a RA, S, AS, IR or PR. #UCFLAE3414
This book is about a mouse who sets out to make a friend. It is a unique book because it only features text on the 1st page which makes it a great book for young children who are still learning how to read. However, the illustrations make it captivating for a variety of ages!

Cruzdia1 A UDL strategy that pairs well with this book is 2.4: Promote understanding across languages. This book is great for that because of the reduced amounts of text which makes it easier for ELLs to understand, follow along and participate. 6y
Cruzdia1 An ESOL strategy that pairs well with this book is 36: Ask numerous questions which require higher level thinking responses. While reading this book you can ask students higher order questions like “Why do you think it is important to make friends?” “How can we show someone that we would like to be friends with them?” “What are characteristics of a good friend?” 6y
Cruzdia1 The resource that I attached for this book is a 5-Day gradual release lesson plan so that you and students can explore the different themes in this story in depth. This activity would work best with younger students. http://www.hubbardscupboard.org/do-you-want-to-be-my-friend/ (edited) 6y
DrSpalding I agree, this book could be used in many ways. I have seen a great storytelling. Knowing that this author produces beautiful images, they would make for excellent props. Well done. 6y
JennaMichelleCohn I love the 5 day plan you attached. I think it‘s great that this can really be expanded and dug into to get everything possible out of it. 5y

Eric Carle says this is his favorite book because it teaches children about friendship! This F is very visually appealing and shares a simple message that I recommend sharing with children of younger ages. Here's a lesson plan that pairs well with the story: http://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewResourceUrl/Preview/36220 #ucflae3414su17
