This MF, TS Geisel Award winner is about two animals who argue about whether or not the either is small until a creature comes in and settles the argument for them! This book would be great for an S. has great resources. UDL 9.3 is develop self-assessment and reflection and works great for this book as students can make sense of the character‘s different perspectives.

DrSpalding This is an excellent choice. Not only is it a Geisel award winner for emergent readers but a wonderful book to use in the primary classes along with your fabulous, Reading is Fundamental website. Continue using this website in future planning. 4y

This is a very cute and relatable story which serves to remind us to try to view things from the perspective of others. One of the lessons that this book can teach children is that just because someone‘s opinion may be different than yours, it does not mean they are wrong! This book also features a silly unexpected twist at the end!

Cruzdia1 A useful UDL strategy for this book is 4.1: Vary the methods for response and navigation. While reading this story you can welcome students to respond to the story in a variety of ways. For example, you can have them recreate the facial expressions of the characters in the story. 6y
Cruzdia1 An ESOL strategy that would work with this book is 3: Encourage self talk. This can be done during a RA. You can ask students leading questions about the story in order to scaffold student understanding. 6y

paulettevp Summary:
Two groups of bear-like creatures argue about who is small and who is big. Then other groups of bear-like creatures appear to dissolve the argument. The groups move on to more important matters like eating because they are hungry after all.

paulettevp Classroom Application:
This an excellent RA story for math especially measurement. The lesson can be introduced with this book and you can have students participate in choral reading with the sentences, “You are big.” And “You are small. while holding up their cutout puppets.

paulettevp The students will then use cut outs of the purple and orange bear-like creatures as measurements to figure out how much many creatures certain objects like chairs, books, and shoes are. The cutouts and charts can be found in the third resource. 6y
paulettevp ESOL 34: De-emphasize speed and emphasize accuracy of work.
Give students more than enough time to complete chart so they can make sure and double check their measurements. Remind students that it is not a race and that accuracy will count more than the time of completion.

Students will complete the hands-on activity which requires them walk around the classroom measuring these certain objects and have the option to write their response or share a chart with a partner so they will only have to say the measurement out loud to their partner who will write it.

juliette_kathleen This book is so cute and simple. It actually made me laugh when I read it. I like the idea of tying math into the story. I think this is a great way to slip a math lesson in without it truly feeling like math. Awesome! 6y
